I am saving up for the stage 2. Best price around, but I haven't been able to find any opinions on them. Any experiences?

I've got one... about 10k miles so far.
If you search some of my past threads on it, you'll see I had some really bad luck upon initially installing it. It held good for about 1k miles and then started slipping really badly over 8psi or once it got hot. I dealt with it for a long time and cursed the name Spec.

When I installed my new motor, I found that I had 2 hot spots on the PP and a clear uneven wear line on the disc. I decided to reinstall it anyways in case the problems I were having were due to install error.

I made sure I was VERY CAREFUL and methodical in my install. All of the flywheel and PP bolts were installed in a crosswise pattern at 5lb increments. I lubed everything very carefully and overall was simply very ---- about it. It's been holding 14-15psi for the last 2k miles. I just did an auto-x school. At one point I did about 20 laps in a row, EXTREMELY hard launches and shifting and it held like a champ.

It has stock (or even better) pedal feel, great modulation, great holding... since the re-install, I'm a believer.

I echo Sam's comments. My Spec (1.6l) stage 2 is excellent. I have a Spec light weight flywheel as well. If I were buying a new clutch, I'd opt for the stage 2+ in 1.8l and skip the flywheel.

Are the Specs really that good? I got a Stage 2+ for my 200-215 RWHP SC'd track car 2 years ago. Here are the facts.

Spec Stage 2+ clutch
Torque rating: 300 ft-lbs
Friction Material: Kevlar on one side, Carbon Fiber on the other.
Original Friction Disk Thickness: 0.310"
Current Friction Disk Thickness: 0.293"
Permitted Disk Wear: .020" - .025"

That leaves me with .003" - .008" of life left. Let's assume .003" for worst case. I've got 20 track weekends on the clutch - no ideas what mileage that represents. Plus I drove it to events the first year. The car sees no street time to speak of.

.017/20=.00085" wear per event.
.003/.00085=3.5 events remaining.

Do I A) replace just the material disk? B)replace the whole clutch?

Is this kind of life comparable to what some of you other guys are getting? The car is only putting out ~180 ft-lbs of torque, but it does get used hard 100% of the time.

Is this is a crappy life span? I would have thought with the over rated application and tougher materials it would have lasted longer.
