What do you guys think of this? Is this a good alternative to having multiple gauges, laptop for logging and an external lap timer? I wish a big box store carried this so I can try it and return it if it sucks.

I had one of these for a while. I was working on selling them, but demand was too low to warrant a stock of the item. I would say its a good unit. You could do anything with those gauges, configure range, units, arrangement, anything you could think of. Plus the GPS function is pretty neat, could be useful is you track enough.

Guessing the GPS can be used for lap timing purposes? Can't really find much info on it.

Yea, its a little bit complicated to use because you have to goto google maps and actually get an image of the race track if you want to actually see the road course while using the GPS mode. If you don't want to go through the hassle you can always just use it without a track map. In that case you'll see a trace of where you are and what your previous laps looked like as well as time.
