Default How good are your cranking settings?

I have my Adaptronic set up now so it will start hot or cold without any assistance (no foot on accelerator etc), but it takes a good 5 seconds longer to start than with the stock computer.

How are you guys finding your cranking stuff?

I posted my most current map in the maps section. Starts right up without any help at all every single time. 100% good.

I'll have to grab your settings. I have solid cold start but my hot start leaves a little to be desired.

I've tried so many different settings it's not funny. Still having a bitch of a time getting this thing started as per MX-5 takes ages to start

I added this post:

Here's the interesting part - most of the improvement came from increasing the ignition dwell time setting, as well as going to the correct spark plug (one step hotter than what I had). The dwell value I had (2100us) seemed to be fairly low compared to other maps from the same cars (now set to 3000us).

The next hurdle is finding out why my fuel economy is so bad! The tune should be spot on; it has spent over 4 hours on a steady state dyno.

Cheers

This might have something to do with my starting problems too!

Yeah, exhaust cam was advanced one tooth.

Some other issues that may or may not be related to this:

The car has been running this way for about 1,000km but just blew a head gasket.

On the dyno it "ran out of steam" at about 6,000rpm (made 154hp from 6,000 to 7,200rpm), I was blaming this on the M45 supercharger but I think this may at least contribute to the problem.

The exhaust has a weird "buzz" from the tailpipe above 3,000rpm that doesn't appear to be a rattle.

Also, the fuel economy isn't as good as I expected.

Thought I'd bring this thread up instead of starting a new one.

Are you guys using VE tuning for cranking fuel now that it is available? I was having so much trouble getting mine started with the conventional method, but did not try the VE tuning option yet. Does this checkbox automatically calculate how much fuel your engine needs to start? When this is checked off, does the logic use the cranking fuel table at all, or is it omitted from the calculations? I was sort of expecting the cranking fuel screen to magically be filled with numbers based on my engine and injector size after checking off the VE tuning box for cranking fuel.

I'm not using the VE stuff, but now the head gasket issue has been resolved and my cranking settings have been set by my tuner, it starts just like OEM did!

I haven't tried your settings yet, I'm a wuss. What is the lowest ambient temps you have reached while maintaining factory-like start ups?

And a little off topic, have you guys ever used these jumpers to let the stock ECU handle the VTCS and Idle controls?

Somewhere between 0ºC and 5ºC is the lowest temp in wich i've started the car. Temperature don't go lower inside my garage.

I'm still fighting to get instant crank on the first turn, but this is going to be very hard with stock NB sensors. I still have to try differents max and min rpm cranking settings.

I worked enough motivation to try it out again. The weather is not as cold as before when I was having so much trouble getting it going. I put the jumpers on the stock position.

OMG stock-like starting!

I would like to see Saboteur table to compare with mine. I am glad that my map has been helpful to you.

Do the stock injectors provide enough fuel to run 8psi? I am running your map and find a flat spot at like 3200, I don't have my LC1 installed so I just backed off around there.

Ouch! I forget to say the map i posted have the VE fuel map untuned (rescale problem). With the LC-1 hooked up and 10 minutes on the road the autotune will do the job. If thi isn't possible to you right now, tomorrow i'll post an updatep map with the correct VE values.

I'm running 8 psi on stock injectors and haven't seen any problems yet, but I have no idea of how much % duty cycles are.
