Default 2001 install

I am getting ready to install my adaptronic into my car along with an AEM UEGO.

I see that the uego has a 0-5 volt output and a serial. I don't see where the 0-5v is beeing used. I am going to be using the serial to connect to the serial port on the Adaptronic. I was thinking about removing the factory o2 and installing the UEGO in the factory location and using the 0-5v output to feed the factory harness so that the ECM wont throw a code for the o2. Is this possible and has anyone tried it? If I am not mistaking the factory o2 can be used as a back up incase the Uego serial connection dies. Hence why I was thinking about running the UEGO throught the factory wiring. I am planning on buying another sensor to have on hand. With the power from the o2 sensor I was going to run the UEGO.

If that can be done how would I be able to fake the heater circuit. I am shure I can just use a resistor for that. If so which one would I need?

I have a connector off and old o2 sensor and was thinking about plugging that in to the factory harness and connecting the 0-5v of the UEGO ouput, a resistor for the heater circuit, and the 12v wire to power the UEGO.

So my questions are.

A. Can I use the 0-5v output into the factory harness?
B. Can I fake the heater circuit with a resistor?
C. Am I crazy for wanting to do this?

Have a great day,
Jared

no need: the ecu won't throw a code.
probably but i dont know
yes. but if you can pull all this **** off without much trouble kudo's to you. I just don't see the need to run it any differently than all of us are running it. But hey: its your car give it a shot

I would just like not to have to weld a new bung on. Theoretically it should work. I know it sounds like I am tring to reinvent the wheel. I just like beeing able to reinstall every thing back to stock without much issues.

Have a great day,
Jared

Bungs usually come with plugs. You can just plug it up. but I don't think you'll have too much trouble getting it to work your way

Thats what I was thinking. I also thought about the bung plug, but its one more thing to pay for.

Tlak about a major brain fart. I just realized that the factory o2 is a 0-1v reading not 0-5v. So unless someone has done this before it is out.

Thank you for your help.

Have a great day,

Yeah you can't do that. AEM Uego does not output a useable narrowband signal.

Bung with plug Ebay

Make sure to mount the wideband oxygen sensor at least 12" from turbo/head. They can't take as much heat as narrowband before shifting signal reading and/or life shortened.

Also it is a good idea to have backup sensor because the bosch's sometime like to start reading funny if they see extra rich conditions or burning a little oil or coolant.

Thank you for confirming that. I also didnot know that about the bosch sensors doing that. Looks like down to the shop I go.

Yeah after running them for years and having 2 turbos fail, I've had 2 bosch sensors fail shortly after each time. Also had a buddy try to run a super rich tune on one and do the same. Once they foul you can torch them to clean them, but it only lasts a short time before they shift again.

C.

I think you're crazy only because your o2 CEL will be one of many reasons the CEL will be illuminated. I don't think you even need to worry about trying to fool the factory ecu, just completely disconnect the stock o2 sensor. I still have my leading factory o2 in because I'm to cheap to go buy another plug.

But then again, I'm not exactly sure how the stock narroband interacts with the Adaptronic.

I don't know what you have to go through up there but here in SoCal which is in California we have a plug in and dyno test for smog. I too am too cheap and don't want to have to buy a new bung and have it welded into the factory exhaust. However I have come to realze that this is what I have to do. Me personally I currently have the MIL on for a broken connector and it is pissing me off.

The factory o2 can be used to runn the Adaptronic. However it is very limited in its info it will send. It may work just fine for me since i am not FI yet. It is somewhere I just don't know where yet. I am just now starting to read the instructions.

Have a great day,
Jared

Yeah, I just realized you guys had to do the OBDII test or something. We only have to pass a regular emissions test, but they don't check for OBD codes.

PS - did you have to buy a new adapter harness since the one from Stein was a '99?

Have a great day,
Jared

So I got it installed to find out that the ECM had an old version of firmware. I would ike to update it but can't seam to find the new firmware to do so. Please help I am in my car right now scowering the internet trying to find it. I may be blind and have over looked it.

I can load the new map through wari but it brings up a message stating I am using wari v4 and I have an older version of firmware and that some functions will not be used.

Have a great day,
Jared

I got it started only when I hold the pedal down though. If I get off the gas it will die. If I hold it down it will rev to 3.5k and act like its hitting the revlimiter. Any tips? I still want to get the newest firmware in there as well. Right now I cant use the VE option which I would like to be able to use.

Have a great day,
Jared

You can get the latest software here. I think I'm only using V2.0 because they did not document the changes to V4.0...at least not that I can see, and I don't want to screw up my running car.

http://adaptronic.com.au/downloads.html

The 3.5k rev limit sounds like you are hitting the launch control limiter. You can uncheck that option and should be able to rev higher while stopped. I could have sworn this used to require the clutch to be pressed to activate launch control in earlier versions of the software.

I can't tell you how dumb I feel right now. I had the new version 4.0 on my computer the whole time. Now I can't get it to load. I tried to load it through wari4.0 said it failed to load like 10 time then said failed too many times. What do I do?

Have a great day,
Jared
