Default Okay, stupid questions now that I got her running

First ever time running....last night was great! So Adaptronic is in and I followed the installation directions from Travis. Also read Stein's post showing how to do the install.

So first questions that come to mind In the ecu file from Travis's install file, last modified on the 6th of June as I recall...:
1> I have the 3 BAR GM style MAP sensor from Travis, in the current file it shows other... Do I change this to "Adaptronic 3BAR" in this menu?

2> Do I need to calibrate my MAP sensor or use the existing settings? Same goes for the TPS and whatnot... The extended Official Documentation really does not cover what to do in this case where we have a "used" map on a like configuration like what we are doing. I'm using DIYautotune open element IAT sensor, 3 BAR GM MAP, and the rest is factory.

3> My idle is @ 450 RPMs unless I force the car to idle with my foot. Do I just jump in and turn the screw on the TB or is this a software deal where I begin to select cells and futz with the fuel?

Thanks all, I am reading the manual but it is starting to confuse me!

how did the car idle before you did this? If it idled properly i wouldn't recommend changing the idle screw.

tps calibration is easy, and you should definitely do it. (foot off gas click 0% learn, foot to floor click 100% learn)

as for the map sensor calibration, don't touch the lower value unless you have a vacuum generator and gauge. TravisR told me to set the upper value to 100kpa, and with the key on and the motor off click learn. This will set 100kpa to your current atmospheric pressure. TravisR also said that the map sensor will still work as a 3 bar, this is just done to calibrate it.

as for the tab for selecting MAP sensor type, it looks as though 3bar was once selected already. Every time i plug in my laptop to my ecu and it rereads that tab always goes back to other on its own, but the values stay the same.

yes you need to start screwing around with your fuel cells and idle value under the idle tab.

read up on the idle tab section of the manual.

i don't have my idle tab set right either. I am not yet using closed loop idle control (all gain controls set to 0) use the minimum value in the overall control section to bump up and down your idle.

Can you post a picture of your idle menu? It could be your screw is too tight, or you max idle duty cycle is too low. Its one thing that really varies in between cars because of the idle screw.

i believe that i have given you wrong information.

for your map sensor, if you adjust your upper value to 100 and click learn at atmospheric pressure, the map will not produce any value greater than 100 under boost.

i just picked up a hand held vacuum pump from sears. I set the lower value in the map sensor calibration to 10 and pumped in -90KPA with the pump and clicked learn. then i manually adjusted the upper value ADC reading until the current map, at atmospheric pressure, read 100kpa.

this now gives me accurate MAP values per psi vacuum or boost

I'm going to email adaptronic about this. As that is how I was instructed to calibrate the MAP sensors. I hadn't personally tried it on my car because mine was set by true upper and lower, which is marginally in some universe better.

Sorry about any confusion if that did not work out.

That looks ok, when you start it up, what duty cycle do the gauges read for the idle?

Okay sorta figured out the error of my ways. Looks like my TPS was not happy and I calibrated it a second time.. now the car idles great when it starts.

Here is an excel log that I took... it shows the idle dropping to 450ish RPM for a bit; but hopefully it is good enough for a solid looking at.

Also have my ECU file attached in the zip folder. My car has an AEM Uego, factory 02 sensors elsewhere, your 3 BAR MAP, DIY autotune Open Element IAT, 600cc injectors, and that's about all. I think I have the system configured right but do have some work for sure.

I need to really read the manual a few times now that I have the car running and can work with the software a bit. My first goal is to get the car starting easily... she won't start unless I crank 3 or more times and it sounds like it is backfiring or something... it kicks back on the starter for sure. After I get the car starting a bit easier... I need to get the tuning done. That's where I have so many questions. Like Fast Tune... I was able to use this to tune my 0-2000 RPM range but could not figure out how to load the car enough to do the job. For example 6th gear @ 2500 RPM still does not make "160" load. I suppose I can ride the brakes to do this; but it's not nice to the car.

Nonetheless I drove the car for the first time last night! Got 0-2000 RPM fairly happy but she loads up at <10 AFR above 2500 RPM. So I need to figure out what to adjust first; but also need to use a bigger laptop. The nebook I am using does not have a page up / dn key unless I hit the FN key. Really a PITA!

Anyhow, any suggestions on the settings and thoughts about the log are appreciated.

Oh, is there a better way for me to make these logs?

I'll send you my current ECU file tonight. My car is running pretty good now and I'm using the same injectors that you are. You should be able to drop it in and go. This is a new ECU file that I started from scratch two weeks ago. PM me your email address.

Prospero, dont bother tuning high load, low rpm cells (>160 kPa and <2500). you'll never hit those cells during 99% of driving. Similarly you wont hit very high RPM and very low load (>5000 <20kPa) unless you miss a shift. And if you want the peace of mind of having them tuned, just copy the values from a higher RPM. you'll notice that as you get the map more finely tuned that the RPM pulsewidth values dont change much along constant kPa rows. Just get it close and you should be fine.

Oaky, now we are cooking with heat!

So Stein sent me a file this evening and I loaded it to my car. It instantly worked! The starting is much better and I no longer run pig rich.

Attached are the logs of my drive to get milk. All told the no-boost running is great; but it feels like my car is having a hard time making power. I am going to read more about the manual and go over the logs myself to see what things look like.

Thanks to Stein for the help and hope to do some tuning and make power! This is great tho! I can drive!!!

Is your wastegate loose? It looks like you're only holding ~125kPa. I'm not sure but I don't think that is much flow on a 2554.

Yep, I just noticed that the WG was loose. Forgot that the turbo was "split" for ceramic coating and never got back to where I had it before.

Took me a long drive and some thinking before I even considered the WG... my thought was more along the lines of the IC has a hole in it or something or maybe I installed the recirc valve wrong or maybe an injector is not working or my timing is all wrong! One extreem to the other! LOL

Anyhow, I drove the car 40 miles for my commute this morning and seemed to work flawlessly. I will adjust the WG later when the car is cool and see how it works. Nervous and scared now!!!!

hrrrrm.. I thought I was distributing your map stein... Any chance I can bum the newest one? Also, did you change the cranking map? My car always turns a few times when cold, but I haven't experimented with new settings yet. I've been working on the cold performance, which is VERY good on the new maps.

No kidding... that is whole idea behind the color choice. In fact my wife named her Sandra D from Grease... she went from the virginal Sandra D to the black leather wearing Sandy!

Damn yall, hope I didn't start a turf war or something! Maybe we should open a new thread in the Adaptronic section simply for ECU files and the list of changes? I have been reading all of the posts in the section and have lost track of the tricks and think that it would work better for one repository with details on what has been changed. This way we almost have revision control for the masses!

What do you all think?
