Default New to Miata's AEM EMS4 Help

Hello everyone. I just got a 99 Miata. It was boosted and running... well not really, AEM EMS-4 with a Boomslang Harness. Im a Honda guy and i got the car in a trade. I put the EMS and Boomslang harness in. I know the Stock EMU needs to be there for alternator control, but im looking for a Startup map/cal for my EMS. I can handle it from there but im not use to building crank and cam timing maps. If someone could help that would be awesome.

Myles

I'll try to remember to send you the base map I have. Is that vvt? No? that started in 01? . Unless someone did a head swap...

But I believe the base map I have is for vv (my car is non vvt, and this makes a difference in ignition I believe) . There is also one floating around by Sam something. Search for it. It's in a thread called "can't get my car started"

Like I said both are for vvt. If you don't have vvt then your ignition coil things (don't quote me in this, it's just what I think I learned) may be different. Spend some time reading. I post mine when I get home

Who did you purchase the EMS4 from? I would to to them to ask for a basemap and help getting your car running.

I know Savington at Track Speed Engineering sells AEM EMS4's and provides excellent customer service if you buy from him.

I'll take a look at it. Also my car is set up for a 12+1 crank timing wheel and a modded cas sensor where I cut off the large node. You can run off of just the cas but it's not recommended on high power because of timing belt stretch you can lose engine position resolution. Read track speeds description on their timing wheel info page. Can you give me some more info in the car?

I've an ems4 on my car, just to give you a heads up,my tuner couldn't get it to run right with the CAS,there was a problem with timing scatter, either from just the way it works or possible fault with my actual CAS,then he just went off the crank 36-1.
Not that I had anything to do with fitting it at all I remember him saying it would start and run fine but at higher revs the timing would be skip about up to 7 degrees?
I had a quick google at the time and its not an unknown problem apparently.

That's actually the problem in having now of timing scatter. Can you explain what happened with yours and how you fixed it more detailed? I'd love to get my car actually running. Instead of only on 2 cylinders.

Can't see anything from your log, you don't have the cam/crank screen active while logging. With the Advanced Pickups screen active, does Stat Sync'd switch from OFF to ON when you're cranking?

Yeah to second that if you don't have start sync that should be your first thing to get working.

He gave up trying to use the CAS and just went off the crank, non sequential with wasted spark.

If you aren't getting a crank count, there's an issue with the crank sensor or the wiring.

Replied to your email, you have several Advanced Pickups configuration errors.
