Default Help -Car Runs! Some Issues still - Look at my Cal file?

So I got it to run on this calibration but it "idles" at around 1800 RPM and dies if if I try to apply any throttle at all. Any thoughts on the calibration?

I have the MAP sensor wired through the MAF harness and changed the signal source on to MAF Voltage.

-Stock CAS for now

-GM IAT and 3-bar MAP

-TPS is calibrated from .7 to 99% or so (not 0-100%)

Also - one of my fan relays turns on and off constantly...

So you are running this car with no boost at all? Your entire maps are all based off of 1 bar, and it's being used entirely for vacuum metering.

Hmmm...

Well, right now it has no boost because it won't run. I'm just trying to get it to idle and rev normally at the moment. However what you say concerns me. I will look at that cal file again when I get back to my Windows machine - maybe I posted the wrong file. The one I have been playing with was supposedly "professionally tuned" on a 1.6. I made changes for sensors and did a Compare to try to make other relevant modifications to it.

I also tried just using the AEM 95 base map, modded for IAT and MAP and re-scaled for 550 cc injectors. Neither calibration allows me to rev the car for whatever reason. The AEM cal won't even start the car right now because it's 50*F here.

I really think I need a better basemap. I am trying to get the car running well enough for the 150 mile trip to the dyno.

Your biggest problem right now according to the tune you posted, you are configured as a 1 BAR map sensor. If it's the wrong tune throw the correct one up here and I'll have a look

Default Let's try this again

Sorry, I'm pretty green with AEMPro. I didn't save changes on the calibration file I posted. Here is what I've actually been trying to use.

Thanks so much for taking the time to help. The AEM seems like a great unit, but it's a conundrum. Shops around here know and like AEM, but it's harder to get online info for our cars. MS has tons of online info and help but nobody near me wants to tune it on their dyno. I did find one willing shop but I don't want to be the guinea pig on my own dime.

I ran into the same problem with mine. No one wanted to deal with megasquirt, but I soon found out they really didn't know that much about AEM except for the basics. I ended up tuning and configuring the AEM by myself. It was a pain in the *** because the software has a zillion different options, advanced options, etc. So I've attached a modded CAL. I'm not entirely sure what cell you idle on, but I discovered a few things with my aem:

#1. The fuel cells above where your car idles need to be super rich. If they were too lean the car just sputtered and died. I've added fuel to a bunch of cells in that general area, you might need to decrease the cell that your car idles on and increase the cells above it. Basically hook up your laptop, watch where it idles, and then give it gas and see what fuel cell it dies on.
#2 - I could never run very much timing around idle, so I've lowered your idle timing to 10 degrees.

Awesome. Hopefully I will have time to give this a try tonight.

Playing with it last night, I was trying to verify timing and discovered this fun little behavior:

When I pull the trigger on the light, it causes the car to sputter severely. If I hold it, it will eventually die. I'm thinking this might be related to my problem with the inability to rev. Must be an electrical issue somewhere. I'm using the factory MAF wiring for the MAP and sending the MAF voltage to the MAP snesor. If this continues I might just move the MAF signal wire to 4F. The way I have it SHOULD work as-is, and maybe it's a red herring...we shall see.

Thanks again!

Have you set the base timing in the software?

That's what I was attempting to do /verify. I was able to get it to 10 (going in spurts so as not to kill the engine) but since it won't idle below 1700 RPM it's probably not accurate.

I finally had a little time to play with this again on Sunday and yesterday, I'm making progress. I sat down on Sunday for a couple hours and created a new calibration file, using the AEM file as a base. I changed the breakpoints to match my old MS1 map (interpolated where necessary) and copied my spark settings.

Car ran better but was severely hunting. If I blipped the throttle it would bog and then rev as I released it. I decided to look at accel enrichment, and reduced the Accel Modifier Table by 75%. Instant improvement! Not great, but it finally ran well enough to nail down the base timing. The timing light must have been too much load on the crappy calibration file I was trying to use. Not sure how all the enrichments work or where to look now, but it's getting better.

I'm thinking maybe trying your advice on this new map might settle it down. I want to look at the enrichments too. I really have no idea yet on what they all do, but I suspect they may be some of the problem. I also think I may need to make changes to the IAC settings if I can figure those out.

My new calibration is attached if you are interested in checking it out. Thanks for your help on this!

Unfortunately, this goes on the back burner for a week. Will update when I'm able to work on it again.

I will update with improvements /issues. I hate when threads trail off and have been guilty of it myself.

Your fuel map looks alright but your ignition map needs a complete rework. What cell does your car idle at (RPM/PSI)?

The fuel is just AEM basemap. Car wouldn't run on the AEM ignition numbers so I plugged in numbers from my old Megasquirt 1. Car runs now so it can't be totally screwed. It's at least better than it was. Since the MS had a smaller table, some of the breakpoints and numbers are calculated. Not really sure how to rework the spark table. Any specific suggestions?

I'll create you a new ignition table. I noticed your map is also just using a 2 bar sweep.

I've completely rewritten your ignition table. I can't really do your fuel table because I would need to have be there with a wideband o2.

Wow man. thank you SO much! I'm away from the from car until next Thursday, but I can't wait to check this out.
Map is 2 bar sweep because I don't plan to go over 14 psi at most. I'm intending to only run 12, actually since its a stock mill.

Thanks again, this is progress. I can rev the car now. I still can't get the idle down (It stays around 1800 IIRC, even after warmup.) I need to figure out if this is related to IAC or enrichments, I'm guessing. SOOOO many options and tables!

Finally tracked down my rapidly oscillating relay - it's LS5, assigned to condenser fan. Can I just mimic the setup for the other fan's low side output to have them kick on simultaneously?

I'm sure I can get the fuel eventually. I just need to get it running well enough for an un-boosted or moderately boosted, 150 mile drive to the dyno.
