That definitely wouldn't be a cheap option. They go for 4-6 grand these days.

Try 6-7K for the V160 and close to 10k for the V161! This is a no go for sure.

Does a Z32 gearbox fit in the tunnel??

No updated pictures to show yet, but we've had a couple transmissions variations in and out of the car, trans mount is prototyped, and the shifter setup is done and feels really great.

I'm hoping to get the Getrag stage 2 kit mounted in the car this week so I can order up a driveshaft. Then we can start playing with electronics to get a functioning VSS.

Getrag diff.

In an NB vss is easy, you can actually drive the stock speedo with a square wave from an ECU or other source. NA will be interesting. I saw someone recently looking at some sort of motor with a speed signal from the ecu to spin the speedo cable..

Yeah that's the normal way, nice and expensive. Plus if you try to get a cheaper one I hear the speedo does a lot of bouncing.

New transmission is going to be the AZ6 out of the FRS, is this what you've been hinting at?

I hear those are not exactly stout at anything above 250-280 wheel torque wrenches??

What about those old Toyota pickup trannies?
You know, the ones with the steel plate in the middle.

Actually might work OK

There is the Dakota ECD-100 which is a mechanical drive, but really expensive.
Adopting the speed drive cable with a mechanical solution would probably not be worth the effort I guess (whould require some adapter and a custom gear)?
Swapping the NB cluster into a NA is probably the easiest way to go.

That would be the W5x series of Toyota transmissions? They also came in the manual IS300.
Those transmissions are not really stout either (they blow up when bolted to a boosted 2JZ) and are a bit agricultural. They are also at least 10 years old and they lack a 6th gear.
Does not sound like a great solution.

What is the most common Getrag diff ratio? I guess that will be 3.73:1?
Combine that with a K24 which spins to 8000 rpm and you end up at roughly 145 mph top speed if your final gear of the box is 1:1
I think that sort of rules out the the tremecs with the huge 0.5:1-ish final gear. Having 6th at approx. 0.8:1 would be as far as you would go I think?

I think it will be the transmission out of a Z33 or Z34 (if they are any different between those two cars)
