About 2 years after removing the 7670, I figured out why it was so laggy- I used my Tial BOV and just left the one built into the efr unhooked. That's a boo boo, you gotta block it off, otherwise it's just a huge boost leak. Opps. Simple, but I never realized it till 2 years later.

I would only go with a big turbo like that if I got a bug up my *** and tried building a twinscroll manifold.

Looking at the s200sxe they make a 76mm compressor wheel and a 70mm compressor wheel. And either a .70 A/R open T3 or a .83 A/R twin scroll T4. I like the prices I can get my hands on it for, and building a twin scroll manifold would be fun. I've always wanted an external gate for better boost control too.

What I really need to do is get better at solidworks so I can actually try and design one before building it. equal runner length would be ****, but I'm not sure my skill level is there yet. I really need to get around to picking a turbo. Then I can borrow someones 1.8, figure out placement, and build a jig.

My biggest issue is I don't want this **** to turn into a jtothewhat thread, where I start **** and never finish it. I've been browsing craigslist for t5s and that will probably be my next purchase.

I've designed a turbo mani in solidworks a few years ago (like 5 or 6 years ago...) and it's sweet. But you can absolutely do it without solidworks.

Maybe I missed in in the 5,400 post, but what are your goals for this new setup you're building?

Goals: Fun to build, try something new, do it as cheap as possible, experiment.

I run the car on the track hard. But don't care how fast it is. My current track tune is 4psi. So whatever setup I build will probably have the wastegates wired open on the track, I'm not a good enough driver to handle all the pooowwwaaa.

I made my current mani without it, but adding twinscroll complexity I like the idea of using solidworks.

DIY T5 swap is on the list, along with building up the motor I have in my garage with forged parts.

TurboTim already designed a few twin-scroll manifolds. Check out his absurdflow website for digital renders. He would probably give you the files he made for them if you asked nicely.

Oooh, I remember seeing those. I will pm him. I was slightly worried about dual wastegates until I saw this:

So you drive this on the street, or track car only? I thought you said it's not a street car any more a while back. I'm assuming you're going to use the power you're building at some point?

Its my daily driver

I would like to be able to use the power, hence the t5 swap. I have a pipe dream of running drag week with it someday, but thats really just a dream.

And ideally as I improve as a driver be able to turn the power up on the track.

I know everybody hates dyno queens, but the engineer in me likes the idea of just seeing what numbers I can hit and learn my way to it. This isn't a buy parts and bolt-on project, I want to learn something new every step of the way.

Build what you want, who cares what everyone else thinks about YOUR car. I agree it's fun to learn along the way. I've could have paid someone to build me a turbo/motor more than once* with all the time/money I've invested/wasted doing it myself. But now I know how to do it myself, and that's valuable to me. And it was fun.

*a lot more than once...

ideally I'd like to take my time and build the motor once. The setups external from the motor I'm not to set on. I could change my mind. I think I can get a decent return on a manifold+turbo+downpipe setup. Or at least not lose any money in the process if I don't like the response of a big turbo.

What kind of response do you want? What power? Surely you have an idea of what you want in all these areas. Obviously a huge cheap journal bearing turbo isn't going to make 20PSI at 3,000 before your foot can hit the floor.

I would get the turbo that's just big enough for your power goal, then build a manifold that will maximize it's spoolage if response is more important than ultimate power.

I really don't know. I want to see what a 200sxe can do. I'm used to a 1.6 that makes max power around 4k.

I definitely don't want to be 150hp until 5500rpm and then suddenly 600hp.

I'm not buying an EFR, too much money.

My 2 current choices are HX30 or s200sxe.

The s200sxe has the same airflow rates as an efr 7670, but its journal bearing and no Gamma-ti wheel.

That being said twinscroll should make a difference in spool, even though it seems to be heavily debated how much of a difference.

Do you want 600+whp? That's what the EFR7670 is designed to do at it's max, and you're saying the s200sxe has the same performance. If you want 400whp, that's a terrible turbo for your goal since it will spool late and not make the power it was designed to do.

You really need to think about your goals for the setup. I'm not saying "spend more money" I'm saying "build exactly what you want the first time" so you don't do what I did, building one setup after another.

I mean 600 would be cool...There's also a smaller 7070 that will flow a bit less air at its max.

What I really wish they made was a s100sxe lol.

I don't see why anyone would want to go higher than a 6758EFR on our bp motors

To make more than 450hp?
