I'm not sure how you managed it but your thread I'd as large as mine in half the time. Damn!

That and forgetting what was posted 20 pages ago and asking the same question since I am too lazy to look through 70+ pages to find the original post!

I believe the other outlet is a 15/20A 220, I would not try to run the compressor on that but it shouldn't burn a house down, if it's to code. You won't be running it on it if it's too small, it will pop every time it tries to start. I'd check the wire gauge behind the plate if you are super worried.
Reason I want to run it off this is because this outlet is outside, where I want the compressor to be. And its also my 3rd 220v outlet. I already am using the other 2 (dryer/welder) and don't want to spare.

I'm nearly certain that's a 20A wall AC plug, I used one to mine bitcoins when I had no more circuits free. I think that compressor wants 25A max, though 30A is probably a better margin.

Wall outlets are meant to be derated 20% when run on a constant load, more than 3hrs. You are already over the limit without even taking that into consideration.

If your house is wired proper it will pop the breaker immediately, if not it might start fires somewhere exposed if your lucky, down inside the wall if you're not.

Either way, the added resistance will probably lower the running voltage enough to totally **** the capacitors within a week. I've replaced three start capacitors, all nice quality ones, before I finally convinced a customer to do it right.

It's been fine since, well the motor runs at least. Never buy a puma compressor.

Yeah, I would. Either that or maybe find a smaller compressor motor if you don't need all the CFM. I think 3-5hp motor would fit under that 20A circuit.

If I had to guess from amps I'd say that's a 6-7 horse motor you've got now.

So it does...

Well, maybe might get a slightly more efficient 5HP motor? My numbers were assuming 100% efficiency in watt/hp conversion. Whoops.

What you are looking for is something with a run amps around 15-18 and a start up to 20A, maybe a little more.

And I can just swap the motors out?

I'll call my landlord tonight and talk about upgrading the wiring/plug

You should be able to, the puma compressor mentioned earlier got a very nice baldor, spendy too.

Mounting plate might need an adapter plate, but it shouldn't be more than you can handle.

Check that, 5HP with 15A. That would work beautiful.

Yeah, that should work. I don't know if I'd trust a harbor freight electric motor though.

Check your Craigslist. Old dudes stash these things.

Then again, there might be less farm equipment near you...

Bet that would fit in a flat rate box.

Let me see what the mount is when I get home. If it is standard this might be easier than i thought.

If I take the Mikey mouse ears off it, maybe. The flat rate boxes aren't very tall.
