Everything is a hammer if used correctly.

Really though, for the resolution you want, its not going to be a cheap tool. And do you have the machinists feel to nail 1/10 thou with a thumbwheel?

The spec is .0020 out of round.

That one is way more accurate than that.

Just crank the dial till it reads what you want it to, spin it a bit if necessary. That's what the carbide faces are for.

They will distort if you torque them to a value that results in a higher clamping force than the stock bolts torqued to stock spec. If you want to run them, just have the machine shop do a line bore/line hone and be done. 200 is a fair price, I paid either 200 or 250 for the same on mine.

I'm sure we could get any number of people here on either side for the main line bore. And although I have increased the budget for this build, there still is one, and i need to cut corners somewhere.

It's physics. Things bend when you apply a load. Higher loading will cause more bending. If this seems debatable, I'm out!

Well are they supposed to be torqued to a higher spec? I have not read the instructions.

I don't have the specs in front of me either. I would imagine they are stronger than the stock bolts, and thus will require a higher torque. Also ARP typically uses a low friction lubricant, and fine pitch threads to increase clamping force. That's 3 things that all result in higher clamping force.

60 ft-lbs with ARP mains and lube vs. 40-43 for stock. Even if it's the same pitch, it's still quite a bit more preload.
