I'm tired as hell and will elaborate later. Results were right in line with my expectations. I'm going to sleep now.

91 pump vs. e85

So, picked up 5HP. That's with a timing bump for E85 I assume?

Have a beer.

So far so good. 8 cars in class yesterday, took first place in open qualify, qualifying race, and main race. New Xidas are amazing even though the ride height settled a little low. Needs adjustment, will do review soon. Car pulls strong with the e85, UMS tuning nailed the cold and hot start stuff first time around, haven't had any problems so far. I'm only 0.18 off my personal best and did that time in the main race during the hottest part of the day, with better weather and some time to set up the suspension properly I'm sure that time would get crushed.

Nice numbers. 5hp is definitely worth the work. Looks like it took a lot more timing down low, drivability must be much better.

Low RPM drivability does not exist with this new clutch and flywheel setup lol. And on track I'm never below about 4k anyways. I've stalled it at least 5 times so far trying to get around the pits. Drives awesome on track though.

sweet torque gains! guessing it was tuned on a dynapack or something? any idea what kinda power it should make on a dynojet?

what clutch setup is that? would you recommend it?

i'm thinking about taking the plunge into a road racing miata build for next year. Seems like you've learned a lot on this build, so I hope it's OK with you if I pick your brain as I figure mine out.

I'm also in AZ so maybe i'll see you at the track!!

Hi Sean! Now it's a party haha

You guys got a line on any pre-prepped miatas in the valley?

Building is always fun, but so is saving money and time...

Yeah you can see in the lower right corner of the screen it says Dynapack right on it.

I actually just got done doing pulls on a dynojet, I'll write up a post soon with results.

This clutch is definitely track only. It's a JPM/Mazdaspeed flywheel and a Quartermaster 5.5" Twin Disk V-Drive. It's an unforgiving on/off switch but it's amazing on track, I love it. So far I have been regularly stalling the car while trying to get it to move, it's a little bit better after getting broken in but it's still a bitch. For a dual duty street/track naturally aspirated build I would go with the setup I had before. Fidanza and Exedy stage 2.

Nice to see more AZ people looking to get into road racing. Shoot me a PM so I can add you on Facebook and I'll get you pointed in the right direction. I'm always up for helping people get on track and get their cars set up better.

This is my buddy's car. I helped plan this build, it was made to beat me. It's a complete steal and is ready to go. Includes everything you need and requires no work to go fast.

Haze, if you consider buying that and don't have a truck to tow it here (it's located in Cornville) I would be willing to go with you and tow it back for only the cost of diesel.

Alright so here's the mega update. First I'll do a post with all the mods and dyno results, then I'll make another post with some race videos and my thoughts on the Xidas so far.

Here's what my dad and I did to the car this last round of upgrades:

Walbro 190HP kit from 949 Racing
Replaced all rubber fuel lines with Gates Barricade (Rated for E85)
Continental Flex Fuel Sensor on return line
Wix Fuel Filter (these stand up decent to e85)
Injector Dynamics ID1000's

Quartermaster 5.5" Twin Disk V-Drive Mini Clutch (5.5lbs)
JPM/Mazdaspeed Steel Flywheel for 5.5" Clutch (7.5lbs)
New Clutch Master/Slave (949 Racing Kit)
949 Racing Braided Clutch Line

Racing Beat 2.25" Catback with resonated midpipe

M-Tuned/Supermiata Coolant Reroute

Xida Gen 2 with helper springs and billet coaxial upper mounts. 1000/400 lbs/in rates.
Installed base trim model swaybars and swaybar endlinks

I think there's pictures above of pretty much everything.

This was a mad dash to get everything done.

The dynapack results for the e85 switch are above. Dynojet results below. Here's a short little whatever video of when it was on the dyno, and a picture at UMS Tuning. I got on the dyno late Friday night, had a race the next morning, and I couldn't get the car started at my house so I towed it to UMS. So I had no idea if I was going to have coolant leaks, or fuel leaks, or if something wasn't going to work, basically it was a huge gamble. But everything worked out. Race videos and results will be in the next post.

I think either the dynojet likes the flywheel/clutch a little more than the dynapack, or maybe beating on it for a weekend on e85 did it some good.

On the dynojet it had gains of 9WHP and 4WTQ at peaks. Also at 4000RPM I gained almost 9WTQ. Pretty nice. I'm impressed since this is the stock engine that came in this car and the only internal mod is the Exhintake cam mod. Currently has about 118k miles I think.

Let it be known that both of these before and after dynos, the major notable changes are:
Old: Fidanza 1.6l Flywheel and Exedy 1.6l Stage 2 Clutch
New: JPM Flywheel and Quartermaster 5.5" Twin Disk Clutch
Old: Roadstersport 3 Catback 2.25"
New: Racing Beat Catback with Resonated Midpipe 2.25"
Old: NB Purple Injectors
New: Injector Dynamics ID1000's
Old: Pump Gas 91 Octane
New: Pump e85 tested out around e82 I think.

Track weekend.

So, last Friday night I had just finished getting the car tuned at UMS Tuning. Everything was going good. My dad set the ride height really quick on the new Xidas, and then we got a couple hours of sleep before taking off for the track on Saturday morning. The car settled a bit low. Like 3.75" front and 4.0" rear pinch heights if I remember correctly.

The Xidas: Insane compared to the Vmaxx Track Pack coilovers. Everyone needs these in their life. The car does everything better now. I can brake harder and later. Cornering speed is up. The LSD now has absolutely no issue putting power to the ground coming out of corners now. And the car does not get easily upset by bumps. The only bump that upset the car was a monster curb at the end of the straight, and only because my ride height is set too low. At the proper ride height I don't think it will hit the bump stop anymore on that one.

The Clutch and Flywheel: Also insane. Car is pretty tough to get rolling now, but on track it is amazing. I can definitely shift faster, but the synchros are a bit tired in this transmission which is the original and has thousands of hard track miles. It revs like a motorcycle now.

The E85: The extra power was definitely noticeable and nice to have.

The results: I got first place in Open Qualifying, Qualifying Race, and Main Race on both days. On Saturday there was 8 people total in my class, and on Sunday there was 9 people total. I forgot the GoPro for Saturday but got video of Sunday. Videos are below. I also set my new personal best by 4 tenths of a second at that track even with no corner balancing and no alignment at all. This time is fast enough to take the TTE record at NASA that has stood for 3 years. On March 5th and 6th I'm planning on trying to take that record down.

Also, felt like a wheel bearing was going out halfway through the last race of the weekend. Just going to replace all four bearings and hubs because I'm likely on borrowed time with those.

Next up: SADFab Delrin Bushing kit, corner balance, alignment, then try to smash the TTE record.

Pictures and Video (the feature race is a bit more exciting):

Do you have 4.3 gears? I've got 4.1 and always remember hitting fourth even with much less power lol.

Last Saturday I went over to Sean's place and got all these put in. Went with the delrin kit with bronze bearing sleeves in the poly locations, grease fittings all around, delrin offset bushings in the forward position of the FLCA, and am staying with poly/bronze bushing in the RUCA outer position in order to not take points for NASA classing.

Pretty excited for bushings that have much less compliance and being able to get to -3.5 degrees of camber in the front.

I have an alignment and corner balance scheduled for Thursday. Then hopefully hitting the track this weekend at the same track that I was at just a couple weeks ago to see what the bushing kit, corner balance and alignment can do for me.

Xidas are sweet. I find that I can't run the grease fitting on the inboard position of the RUCA. After greasing, I pull the fittings and plug the holes with set screws. If you take a grinder to the subframe . . . maybe?
