They have not run bikes there for years. The V8 supercars cars (top cars in aus) run there. This track is only 20 minutes from the city (melbourne), the walls are very close, and if you hit the armco you have to pay to have it repaired..... Phillip island is the best track, very high speed and only about 1hr 15m. Winton is about 2.5 hrs away and is tight. Calder is about 25 minutes from the city on the otherside and is kind of not running much.

I didn't hit the rumble strip, it just didn't want to hang on. I should have gone a bit slower for the first session due to the tyres not being used for so long. I think once you go on the track you don't worry about the walls and just drive.

I have made the other door outer, still in the mould. And i have made 2 more hardtops - trying to make some moey to finish the car. I am now doing one part for my car at the same time as i make a part for someone else. Saves a bit of time and gets things done.

what does the other side of the doors look like and how many layers did you use on them

The other side looks very flat (not glossy). It is the texture of the peel ply imprint. If you imagine sticking some silk onto a surface and then after the glue has dried - you peel it off, leaving the texture of the silk. It is perfect to bond to as it is clean and a good key for glues and such.

The layers- c.f twill, c.f tissue, soric, c.f twill or flatweave, peel ply, inf mesh, inf chanel, then the plastic layer (bag). Also need the "T" pieces, tacky tape, silicon hose. Everything after peel ply on gets physically removed and thrown away. This part is the worst, it can take between 30min for a door outer to over 2 hours on the rear 1/4 panels. It is hard work.

Can I know what kind of timing are turbo MX5 doing around Sandown so that I can put things into perspective?
I was doing about 1.29 on hoosiers in my S14 200SX but that was 15 years ago, I no longer live in Melbourne.

By peel ply, are you talking about that brown clothy teflon material that is damn near impossible to get to conform properly to any mold that isn't flat? lol

peel ply is usually a woven silky material that doesn't stick to cured resin. it's pretty soft and conforming.

at least I didnt have any trouble with it. also mine was white.

surprised you didn't cut the end off the compressor outlet of the turbo and weld on an 90 deg bend

I did a 1:24 there on 205 R888's with a $300 ebay motor (and all the old turbo gear) puting out only 110rwkw's.

The manifold will be changed later, so i just used some left oer pipe from the old car. Took me about 15 min to do the whole thing. I just need it all done so i can put it on the good engine to get it dynoed.

I bought a new shell to put the 2001 running gear into. So that will slow me down a bit. I am not in a massive rush to finish this car, but i would like to get it done in the next 6 months. There is always something that stops you from building it. I take my hat off to anyone that finishes a big project. It takes away from a lot of your liesure and family time.

The NA6, or should i say, NA8B.... is pretty much done now. It has as much of the NB8B as i could fit in.







I am doing the inner doors on the c.f car shortly. So hopefully not too far away from having working doors.

It is 103 deg farenheit at the moment, so no going into the shed. I do have half of it insulated and have a big airconditioner. But i have not put the a/c in the wall yet. Will do it when it cools down. And finish the paneling the walls on the inside. It is like walking into an oven out there right now. Melbourne gets extreme hight temps for about 3 days at a time around this time of the year. But then you get a southerly and it cools it down instantly. The low temps overnight are very high too. Can be about 85*F at midnight and cools down to high 70*deg's buy 6.30am.
