Thank you. Would love to see some pics of your build! If you don't have a build thread, then feel free to post up a few pics here. Great engine bay!!

Thanks. Sorry no build thread. Next time I get it on a 2 post i'll snap away some decent pics of all the good stuff under the car and drop them off here. I'm working on getting the body sorted out to look decent enough to post some exterior pics as well.

very nice build, I'm excited to see people putting this level of detail into these swaps. Makes it easier for the rest of us down the road, so thank you for not hoarding the hard earned info. I especially like the S2000 gauge cluster and a few of the other little details you have.

Very nice build!
I turbos my S2000 and made alot more on the same setup minus manifold. Car made 630whp on 20psi and we backed it down to 16 and made 550whp. This was on e85 35r with .82 t4. Might want to check out my tuner goes by the name of M.A.S.E. he tunes all over the world but his shop is in jacksonville, FL.

Good ******* lord. Do stock block s2000s really make this much power all the time? I will have to be careful who I call out. Or make more power. :|

Yes they do
The record I beleave is 802whp stock motor on q16 and that one is still running. These motors are fully forged from the fac and built extremly well. The power it makes at such low boost is all in the super flowing head, chamber design, and high comp. LEt me tell you my S scares me when I remove boost by gear on cold days doing a 3rd gear pull. It feels like its on the edge of flying..

No reason not to share, who knows, this thread may act as a build guide for another hot rodder. Im proud of my 20 year old chick car and what she has become.

I know who M.A.S.E. is, he has a very good reputation in the S2K community.

I am running a very conservative 12# right now. There are plans to turn up the boost after I have flared the fenders and have good size tires under the car. Probably going to be running 275 17's for tires not sure of the sidewall yet, pprobably 35 or 40's.

I noticed you are not running a catch tank, can I ask why? Also, what are you running for a fuel system? I think a single bosch 044 could provide the fuel needs for 600hp, but I like to over build so I am planning to run a second 044 parallel then "y"ing the 2 lines together at the fuel rail.

Yep, what do you suppose a 2400 pound miata(hard top, full tank of fuel, and spare tire) is going to feel like at hp 600 on high boost? At some point I would like to run a standing mile, Im sure there are sanctioned events some place, just need to find them.

The car is crazy fast as it sits, and could easily be driven as a dd if you didn't mind the stiff suspension required to keep the power under control.

My car produces no blow by. Most built motors have some slack because of the forged pistons that produce blow by and need catch cans.

The s had dual walbros running a -10 lines each. Fuel rail has two -10 in one -6 out in the center and Bosch 1600's.

This is my old car btw I no longer own it.

Craigs list find!!

'04 seats, the unexpected bonus? Weight reduction, the NB seats weigh in at 24 pounds with rails, the NA seats are a porky 31.5 pounds. If you do the math that's 15 pounds of weight savings. My little car should fly now! Here are a few shots.

nice cl score.
newer seats look so much better.

this thread overall is just so full of win.
this is definitely THE ONLY other 4 cyl that should be swapped into a miata.
potential is just ridiculous

I was speaking with my tuner the other day and told him I wanted to utilize my ebc and tune high boost to 600. I am just toying with the idea right now, but most likely will do it after I have done the body work and wheel tire package.

I am looking forward to driving the car with seats that are not 20 years old and rock hard.

Oh fucklord, please do tune to 600. I think that is a great idea.

Sometime later this year I hope to follow in your footstepsish and swap out the gt3071 for a gtx3076 and hit high 500s. I don't think I could even hit your 485hp now unless I boost to like 35psi... and your HP is at altitude too. I may be able to compensate for the e85 advantage somewhat with WI- I'm gonna run 50/50 water/meth.

The NB seats are indeed quite nice. I daily'd them for years. The most comfy seats I ever sat in.

While I'm here...

I decided to tap the oil pan for an oil temp sensor. I'm gonna do this with the pan in the car. Any ideas on how to mount it up the right way? I have a VDO temp sensor. I was thinking about just screwing it in with some teflon tape but perhaps a better way would be to drill the hole and mount up a nut around the hole and screw the sender in. How would you do it?

We won't even go into the fact that I would never do any work to an oil pan with it still on the engine, that topic was beat to death. That being said, if I were going to add an oil temp sensor with the pan on the engine, there are two different ways I would consider.

First off, I don't like the thickness of the pan for tapping by its self. I may get flamed for this approach but you asked. I would pick up a fitting that fit the thread pitch of the temp sensor. Then I would drill the pan and use JB Weld to attach and seal the fitting to the pan. Take note that the hole would be large enough to allow the shoulder of the bung/fitting to fit inside.

The other approach involves a remote oil filter system and tapping the adapter block that attaches to the engine block.

Hope this helps.

In my spec miata, I don't plan on tracking this car.

As mentioned before I plan on using the AWR flare kit on this project. With this in mind I have been looking for a wheel tire package to fill up the flares. Unfortunately, the 15" wheel is very limited when it comes to tire width, the only street legal tires have 225 as the largest width. although this is not a bad cross section I think it will still be traction limited. I have seen a few miatas at the track sporting 275's and think this may be the cross section width I would like to run.

I have been looking at 17 inch wheels and have had no luck finding a 4x100 17" wheel. However, there is a huge selection of 5x114.3 wheels. I was hoping to avoid a 5 lug conversion, but it looks that given my choice of tire size I will have to move forward with the conversion.

I found this during my search.

The hub is a fd rx7 hub. A collar was machined to slip over the spindlle and inside the fd inner bearing race. This is a straight forward solution for the front of the car. The rears will be a different story.

I was thinking about using either 2nd or 3rd gen rx7 rear hubs, then hopefully finding a bearing with the same outer diameter as the stock miata bearing, and an inner diameter of the rx7 hub. If such a bearing exists it would be a simple replacement of the bearing to get the new hub in place. Then I would need to have new axles made. This would be an easy task as I know a guy who builds axles for drag cars.

If the above approach does not work a more expensive approach would be to have a couple of carriers machined by a cnc machine incorporating miata pick up points and a receiver large enough for the rx7 bearing. This approach would be very costly.

Finally, I found a couple of conversions using ford thunder bird carriers, custom fabricated control arms, mustang cobra hubs, and custom axles.

Or should I just scrap the idea all together and be satisfied running rs3 on 9 inch 6ul's?
Any input is welcome!

Check out NLmotoring they have some decent 17s but they are XXRs so most likely not lightweight but it's good for some wide tires. The 962 comes in a 17x9 and I just saw the new 526 which comes in a 17x9 and x10 in a 4x100 pattern. Something to think about at least

Just to chip my 2 pence in the bucket.. I think I'd look at having wheels custom made and/or some combination of spacers or something before doing a 5 lug conversion.
