Possibly, problem is you still have the DB9 and vacuum source in the same location as the db37. My vacuum line will be pinched off at a 90 degree.

The stock ecu is mounted higher up to keep your foot from hitting it. You can't mount this higher enough to avoid from hitting it (I don't believe), this ms3 is just not meant to fit in the stock location for my year model.

rephrase that, it needs to be much shorter. with the db37 it's nearly 5" longer than stock.



The case is thicker, almost twice the size, and wont allow it to sit far up in the dash.

I can't make it any thinner.

I can probably make it shorter (about 160x160mm) but that would mean no access to the USB port or the SD card slot.

They make 90° outlet DB connector hoods that might get you some clearance. Here's one from Mouser with a total height of 1.5":

I still think there will be a issue with the clutch pedal even if I can make a 90 out of the back of the case.

Years ago, I chose an MSPNP for my application. In that case, I did pay more for a product that I knew would fit in the stock location and not require any wiring hacks. Reliability and my time was well worth the added cost. If I were to do it over, I would make the same decision.

I also think your response is not appropriate given the obvious problem Justin is having. My original critique stands. There is absolutely no reason that the product is the size you chose to make it. Miatas are space-critical. Any reasonable designer would have looked at the OEM ECU and made its exterior dimensions one of the design requirements for a replacement. Also, I'm in this business (albeit, doing electronics for aicraft, not cars). I know darn well that this product could have fit the OEM ECU envelope without costing 50% more.

In my opinion, I think you should offer Justin a refund and should be clear with US customers that this ECU will not fit in the OEM location and a patch cable is required for installation. Just my opinion mind you.

I have a rev built ms2 for a 2000, in the "old" style case. Was going to pull it out and list it for sale this afternoon or tomorrow. PM me if interested.

I was able to install it in the factory ECU location, just bent brackets out of aluminum stock.

I have no idea about fitting the new case but I know the old style case that the ms2e had fits in the stock location without even needing a new bracket. You can use the top bracket for the stock ecu and flip it around and use the stock hole in the firewall with the stock bolt and it stays in place just fine. Maybe this case should be used or an option for customers for the ms3x. I have no idea what the implications of this would be.

No, you don't know that. This is not an ECU that I designed from scratch, so certain rules have to be followed (licensing issue). This means that the case has to be big, no way around that.

Why not stick with the original Basic MS3 you had offered? The ease of no harness? You will have to include a harness regardless now for 99-00 year models to relocate, or go back to the smaller case and older ms3 ecu.

Because it takes about 120% more time to build compared to the new one, the adapter harness is prone to mistakes and doesn't look like a professional product, etc.

Basically it took way, WAY too much time to build.

But now the new case wont fit unless you make a 90 degree db9, db37 and vacuum port. Even then it's a close fit and you have clearance issue with going from your brake to clutch pedal.

Believe it or not, you're the first customer who says he can't make it fit. So assume that others just hacked something up and called it a day.

You cant mount it vertical like next to the air bag module? At least in that location of the NA dash there should be enough room to make jam it up next to the air bag module behind the gauge cluster. Or if you did a complete air bag delete there would be miles of space and a nice stud off the dash bar for a nifty bracket. Assuming the air bag module location is the same for the NA and NB.
