The "MT standard" (y8s spec) straight through Magnaflow AND this twin chamber Magnaflow. I'm unaware of any one person who has actually owned both of them, until now.

Cosmetic question.

I notice you have large Tupperware sides but no rear flaps? Is this by design? I am installing small Tupperware sides and have the rear flaps. I'm thinking of taking them off as it might give the rear end a bit more of an aggressive look with the tires protruding a little more.

Yeah I left em off. Not sure I want em on yet, not a big fan of the "spats" on the rear. They're still sitting in my garage, brand new in mazda packaging.

Update:

Acquired spare VVT longblock to build.

Ordered internal parts for mild build:
Scat forged rods w/ ARP bolts
Rebuild kit (gaskets/seals/bearings/etc)
Timing belt/water pump
Chrom-Moly premium rings

Retaining stock 10:1 pistons (e85)
Rods+refresh for the bottom end
Valve stem seals+re-seat/lap valves+refresh for the head

Right now the plans are for 300whp with possibly even 350 if I get bored and wanna push the setup to the limit on e85.

This is basically the same plan I have for my '96 (non-VVT obviously) with the EFR.

I'm planning on the chibay / scat rods + rebuilt kit etc. with new chrome-moly piston rings and a DIY ball hone. Plan is to keep the stock pistons, and see how it does on E85.

Initially I was planning on running the EFR set-up on the stock engine but after seeing other people bend rods with the EFR at just 10psi...

I'm hoping for ~300whp

aww c'mon man, you're basically just building my exact car all over again except with better suspension and cool seats.

question: why no stronger oil pump? is that track only?

not quite.

Improvements:

vvt
ms3x
ebcs
better street turbo
tubular hotside
ewg
wheels
suspension
seats
6 speed
torsen
SE bracing
SE brakes

Otherwise, yeah lol

The difference in end result goals are as follows:
*With yours my main concern was pulling freight trains on people on the freeway
*With this one I'm looking for more power under curve, WAY more precision and control over the whole powerband, while retaining all of the topend that your car has.

So basically an all around improvement everywhere. This will be my "last hoorah".

I don't think a 300whp street ONLY car needs an OP. That's highly debatable, but I don't care. Its my car.

Looking good Vlad I agree with this statement, mostly just the underlined bold portion because I am using stock OP as well. lol

I am looking at getting real seats instead of the Richardsons, so riding along tuning should be a little more comfy. I'm looking at the Corbeau Forza Sport seats, I think they will fit and look good too. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Everything I saw/heard about the forzas was pretty good. Not a bad idea.

I sat in a forza and I found it to be incredibly comfortable. Especially the back support which is my biggest complaint about my MSM gt seats

E85 is the short answer.

The longer answer is: you want as high compression as you can get away with on e85, and it won't be prone to knock and melt pistons again due to e85 and its properties. Due to my sub 400 goals and the fuel used, low comp forged pistons are simply not necessary.

PM sent.

Makes much more sense, I never understood why people prefer e85 over regular fuel. We don't have easy access to e85 around here (or I don't believe we do)

minor update

Yanked out spare engine. Put it on a stand. Yanked off both manifolds, wiring, and lines. Will start tearing apart, cleaning, and inspecting. Prepping for build.

Currently looking around at engine mounts. I dont think I want stock, and I don't want anything rough either.

Mazdaspeed ones look to be about what I want: 35% stiffer.

Now to figure out where to get them for a good price.
