I wonder, if that's only for kicking out of closed loop on positive RPMdot values?

Is there any reason you don't use the VSS option? I don't have that option, never played with it.

Because I coast in neutral sometimes.

I don't understand. VSS > 5mph while coasting? Aren't you tapped right onto the speedo?

VSS disables closed loop above a certain speed. So coasting at 15 in neutral PID wont turn on.

But that is a good thing, right?

Your car won't idle with closed loop off? Sure it might not be right at 850, but if your initial value table is close you should be within 2-500 rpm. It's basically acting like it's tuned open loop "warmup" at that point.

I never coast in neutral, either power or overrun. Is this why I get **** mileage lol

I guess thats true. You get better mileage in overrun than in neutral lol.

That was basically my CL idle tuning strat, set the initial value table as if it were a warmup table. I never close the valve, so at any point in time the valve should be at +100-200rpm from CL idle target so I don't get idle runaways or dips.

Tuning CL idle is harder, I run into crazy oscillations with cooling fans, MAT rising while sitting idling, etc.. To fix that I've tried to set my CL idle entry and exit conditions as light as possible, any slight hiccup is no more CL idle. Holding a steady valve duty for a few seconds lets the oscillations level.

I don't much have a problem with it triggering while driving around though, and my TPS wavers a good 3% like so. This is 10 for a lag factor, or whatever is highest.

This is one incredibly messy cold start. I throw fuel at it to make it not bog on any throttle input while cold, it takes a very steady TPS signal ad low AE threshold, because too much throttle too fast stalls it

Your TPS signal looks smoother than mine, so set that thing negative and try that.

So you guys use the Idle value table rather than an initial value? I've tried initial value, but if I've just started the car, and the valve hasn't settled to it's final position, and I blip the throttle, it adds my dash pot to the already high idle valve and sets my idle at 2000rpm. Do it again, and I'm likely to end up with a 3000+rpm idle until it settles down.

It currently settles a little slower than I'd like, but much slower and it flys right past my target rpm to zero.

Kris at KO Racing gave me some gigantic help today with Hox's MSM, it idles rock solid now. I'm going to try the initial table to see if that helps my sky rocketing idle after startup.

Idle tuning is weird. Seems like there are a variety of methods to get the same thing. Initial value table works best for me because I prefer a higher idle over it dying. So I don't mind if it settles and drops down. This annoys some people.
There are a couple settings to look at.
Ramp to target, PID, PID delay.

They all change how fast it goes to the target.

I like using the initial value table with a very low dashpot adder. I dial in the initial value table, add a few percent and it drops to the right idle almost every time*

*every time that closed loop idle gets entered correctly. My current issue is entering closed loop idle while still on throttle, which has the idle valve fighting the actual throttle, and that's a fail.

With a properly tuned initial value then it should never drop to zero, it should slam straight to the right value.

Also to get rid of the messyness at startup you can mess with the crank to run taper. I have mine set super high because my cold start isn't tuned perfectly. So I'd rather just have 15 seconds of high idle and then be good to go.

Cold starts need more work for me. I cranked up the fuel this morning and noticed a huge difference. Caught after like 3-4 cranks instead of 5-7.

Use more fuel, not more idle.

I will eventually. Using the idle for now as a hack because I don't have time to tune the fuel.

Posted on msextra about my idle issue. I think its mostly my shitty TPS that won't settle to the same value. But also having a PID RPMdot disable that worked for negative rpm changes would help too.

Firmware 1.5 alpha 1 came out. So I'm loading that right now, nothing new cool yet I don't think. Something about dome boost control, that might be useful at some point. Need to do more reading.

Got my TinyIOX in the mail.

Might try and wire it up. Probably not.

Welcome the newest SADFab member to the thread. Daisy Mae. Dropping off the pet deposit with our landlord tomorrow and then going back to the shelter to pick her up for good. She is the weirdest mix I've ever heard.

american staffordshire terrier, rotweiler, german shepard, english cocker spaniel

5 years old. Meeting her she was pretty calm, a little shy. Hopefully she opens up when she gets to know us. At the end of meeting her she was leaning against us and letting us rub her. I'll post more pictures when I get her tomorrow.

Awwwww

Congrats on the dog.

Edit: I have dog withdrawal pretty bad. 9 months to go until I get my dog back.

It's a tiny dog but acceptable. Love me big dogs.
