Had another track today. RS3's were epic. Barely wore, were pretty much just as fast as the z2*s. Same fastest time, 32.4. Still too slow.

Had an issue in the second session with the car cutting out and dying. Turned out it only cost a cent to fix.

Which style input shaft bearing does that tranny have? Not that it matters much since you're replacing both the input shaft and the bearing you might as well replace the inputshaft bearing retainer so you can go with the cobra/z spec bearing, When I had to take my input shaft bearing retainer off to cut it down for the release bearing I was very pleased to learn that my rebuilt tranny was rebuilt to the cobra style one.

Interesting. I'll look into it. I knew the cobra bearing was different, but what does it actually do?

Is it bolt in?

I forget, theres a writeup on the internet somewhere. The cobra bearing is a tapered roller with a metal bearing cage so all the needles dont fall out when you take it apart and it bumps like another 10ftlbs onto the rated capacity.

I saw one of those pop the shock top hat through its front shock tower a few track days ago at Thunderhill. Hit a bump dropping off the end of an exit berm -- didn't seem like too hard a bump, but it broke lots of stuff.

Was very sad seeing it pulled onto a flatbed 2 hours into 8 hours of open track time.

RS3's kicked ***! I can still see the lettering on the inside tread. Same time as the star specs. These are going to last so much longer.

Huge shoutout to @thumpetto007 for the pyrometer. Helped me get my tires set up correctly so they don't wear like **** again.

Mine had more wear and the rolled up edge on the inner edges of each block on one track day, maybe there is some more time on them or perhaps i was just a little hard on them,on this photo you can see the sidewall flexing under load and the right tires barely touching the ground Name: 86c06688.jpg

I was definitely hard on them. Lots more noise than the star specs. But i was able to hold angle really well.

I run them 4 years ago, perhaps they had a different compound back then, good to know that you are happy with them. May try a set next time i buy track tires.

4 years ago would definitely have been the V1s. I don't know much about those, but I know the V2s are considered better.

Built a seat insert out of 2 part foam. Going to duct tape it after it cures.
