so I just took the car out in the austin hills. I was doing a little road tuning so its ready for the dyno (idle is ******* whacked out) and it didn't feel fast today. I pulled out and some dude in a while 3-series (non-m3) got on my ***, so I matted it in 4th and 5th and I just barely pulled on him (shifting at 6000)...I remembered this car to be a rocket ship. The gauges were cool, the spark map is conservative...I can't hear detonation, did I manage to blow up this motor already? So goose it again and I still don't really pull on the 3-series. What gives?

Then...I hear the 3-series blow off and I see the big, shiny intercooler, lol. Nevermind, the miata is running just fine.

I really think you should take your car into BEGi to have them go over it and make sure everything is cool with your setup and then have either them or another credible shop do a dyno tune. It seems like you worry so much about stuff that it would be good for your peace of mind.

I've giving it to them tomorrow for some fab work, tuning, and a reliability once-over. Then I have a few people in particular to crush at the track. I wanted tuning concepts (clint pohler) to do the tuning on their eddy control dyno, but he can't seem to return an email so I'll give the money to someone who can.

what'd you say? "make it a track god"

I'm interested to hear what they do to it for reliability and track stamina, keep us updated.

what exactly are they fabbing?

I asked them to fix the fitment problem with the cold air box, scooper (which is probably my problem), oil pressure sender mount, dyno tune it, and drive it around town to make sure everything is reliable and ready to beat on.

I'd like to do a splitter and sheet-metal radiator shrouding, but I'm tired of hemorrhaging cash.

I'm really nervous that I didn't run enough advance and smoked this motor. lol.

Good job on having BEGI take care of the details. About the timing, well then - post your timing map!

is this a "burn up exhaust valves" retarded map? I started with y8's adapted map, and rolled it back until i was certain it wasn't knocking. There is a strong chance that it never knocked, but I still rolled timing back until i was absolutely certain that no detonation was occurring.

When savington and I were road tuning my car this past weekend I had poped the hood to plug my fan back in and the turbo and mani were both glowing red. I wouldn't be too worried, although my mani studs/nuts were a bit loose today so u might want to check that.

As far as fans go, I have been thinking of getting a 90* welded onto my inlet of the radiator and if I do that my plan is to tap it for the front temp sensor, which controls the fans. What have you done to solve your fan issues?

Dussent look bad at all. You're probably fine and after they dyno tune it never touch your spark again (until you re-dyno-tune).

I can't figure it out. MS is not switching pin 1R to gnd when the fans should be activated, so I don't know what to do.

I backed the time off like 10* in boost, and gradually rolled it forward to what you had, but I really think I heard detonation...you have a bigger compressor which supported my believe that the higher IAT's were causing what I thought was detonation (knocksense was going crazy too). However, when it was at your #'s, it spun the tires in 3rd gear.

Well, I never actually tuned knocksense because I couldn't tell if I was hearing knock, or not. I don't know that I've ever heard it...but I didn't want to take the chance of blowing up a motor in my ignorance. I could hear it in my VW years ago, but can't seem to hear it in this car.

The KS was so sensitive that it was showing knock in overrun. I'm just really scared of screwing something up. I don't want to be "that guy." I can handle simple maintenence, mechanical stuff for the most part, but I'm not confident in tuning something I just spent a ton of cash on. Better safe than miserable.
