friend of mine's 07 wagon with a very conservative tune @ 16psi on a vf39+supporting mods.

He let off early hence the drop after 5.5k
You can see how much broader the powerband is, while spool is still very decent.
I cannot stress how MILD this tune is btw. He told me he wanted it as mild as possible to keep it dead reliable no matter what.

He did a high 12 at over 105 his first time to the track on a heavy *** rex wagon.

Whatever it is you're building, I'm sure that power/torque curve would be FUN AS **** on the street with so much less weight.

Actually, I've found one at Amazon.com for $117, it's a Denso unit, and the P/N matches what I've seen elsewhere: 234-9120. Still annoys me, but not quite as much.

Yeah, that made sense on a re-read

No, but looking at that picture, it's clear to me that I need to lose weight. I didn't look like that two years ago...

There seems to be a general lack of consensus on this.

The service manual seems to suggest that it is a wideband sensor, I have seen it referred to as a wideband in both parts catalogs and some forum threads, and I have read a few general articles on wideband sensor technology which, in noting that the use of windeband sensors in increasingly common in OEM applications, cite Subaru among the list of manufacturers now employing this technology.

I have also seen other forum threads (such as this one) where folks have said simply "it is not a wideband," without offering any substantiation.

The strongest argument in favor of it being a wideband, IMO, is to look at the setup for it in RomRaider. Here is the "Front Oxygen Sensor Scaling" screen, based upon the dump I did of my ECU last week:

Note that the primary UOM is milliamps (consistent with a current-pump sensor) and the scaling extends from 11.15 to 20.28

I know that you have a lot more hands-on experience with these cars than I do, but the evidence seems pretty solid here.

Why not just pick up a vf30/39/43 for 250-350 (depending on year/mileage) and call it a day? The car will easily make 280-300whp on one.
I shall keep my eyes open. OTOH, installing a used turbo w/o rebuilding it gives me the ******* in general. Such a crap-shoot. I'm going to give Blouch a call and see what they might charge to rebuild mine.

Grrr... You're not helping, planting these ideas in my head.

Honestly, 200 HP is going to be way more than adequate for this car, and the insta-spool characteristic of this one is appealing.

Found some good news on my MAF sensor dilemma: http://www.spectreperformance.com/#CATALOG.9405 Cheap.

Sidebar: WTF is it with weird turbo nicknames? As if the Disco Potato wasn't enough, the Sooby guys are apparently great fans of the Polka Pickle. And they thought we were gay?

At least the Disco Potato has a story behind the name. I wonder if there's a background story to explain the Polka Pickle name.

I'd always wondered the story behind "disco potato," this gave me the motivation to go look for it. Never would've guessed a Miata owner was behind it all.

I assume this is going to be mid-engined? I've been jonesing for a mid-engined locost sort of car. Someday soon.

How are you going to be making the bends in the bars? The standard mid-engine locost frame has only straight bars, which sucks and is really nice at the same time.

Hahaha. You realize that anyone who isn't a moderator can't see that and therefore has utterly no idea what you're talking about, right?

I'm curious as to your choice of frame. Why this vs. the tried and proven locost design? Why round vs. square tube? Purchased, or fabbed yourself?

Do you plan to skin it or leave it open?

Dammit, we need answers!

That was my first thought too.

Apparently he won't be the first one to knock off that design:
