good day.
today was an overall good day. got the bung welded on for the iat sensor. i chose the location on the piping right after the intercooler.
ill get a better picture of the location tomorrow but i feel that will allow for the least amount of heat soak.
and today was good. got that bung on and went ahead and put all that piping in place. easy stuff, but i also got the piping for the hotside done today too. so the piping is now finished. got the flywheel back in after being resurfaced. the pilot bearing blew up and left the outer ring of it in place with the flywheel. i didnt notice it until i went to put the new one in.
got the pressure plate and clutch in place and got the transmission back up and in. had trouble with that bracket though. and thinking it was going to be quick and easy with two people, we didnt suspend the transmission up with rope, so after about 25 minutes of messing with it, that transmission felt like 300 pounds haha

checking stuff off my list
making some progress. the only things left on my to do list:
get coupler for intercoolerpiping
get an air filter
...change the oil filter. put the car back together last night and remembered today that i forgot to change the oil filter
make my gaskets using gasket material i got at napa, should be interesting.
get pins for the iat sensor
wire up megasquirt
cleaned up the garage yesterday and put in the rest of the exhaust last night put all the brackets and bracing back on. wired in the innovate. took out the stock ecu. cleaned up the engine bay a little. mounted the power steering reservoir. and probably some other little things.
any ideas, other than just deleting it (which im close to doing just because i dont really care) on where to put the windshield wiper fluid container? where it was is pretty much exactly where my turbo is now haha. im thinking either putting it behind the passenger side headlight because there is plenty of room there or up next to the master cylinder for the brakes.

ended up just ordering everything i needed from FM. i got a fitting that would allow me to use the stock banjo bolt, but i dont like it very much. so ill have all the oil and coolant fittings and lines that FM uses.

Search around on here. Read the many many many many many threads/posts saying to not, ever, use that crap. Educate yourself.
I'd post up a picture I still have on my photobucket of what those look like after only a couple months, but pb is blocked at work.
The short answer: it will fail. Not a question of if, but a question of when.
Either don't use a gasket at all, or if you absolutley must use gaskets use stamped/layered steel or inconel ones. Nothing else will hold up and you'll just be replacing that napa crap in a couple months.

So life has happened. This car needs to have been done five days ago. Christmas break is over and Ive had to go back to school for my final semester before i graduate college, and its been all hell getting into the classes that I need. but all of that bs is taken care of now. so now i can focus back on finishing this beast up.
i got all the lines and fittings in the mail from FM, and like it states above, the oil feed line is too long but that isnt really an issue. i can either leave it or have it modified.
put the manifold and turbo in to see the fitment with the downpipe and ewg dump tube. there seems to be an issue with something. The dump tube almost seems to be too small, but barely. vband'd it on there and everything was in place other than the ewg, (ie, the manifold, turbo, downpipe, and dump tube).
then I put the ewg in place and there was a gap probably about 1/8th of an inch (maybe a little more) from where it would bolt to the dump tube (i bolted it to the manifold first)
well the dump tube has some flex piping in it, so i decided to try and make it fit. got the bolts in and that flex pipe stretched enough to tighten it all the way down but there seems to be a gap between the manifold and ewg, on the top only. like, the downforce from putting those two bolts in is stretching the top down and away from the manifold.
i am going to take everything out and then kinda re-piece it back in to see if it all works itself out.
then the only thing that remains is wiring up the innovate, megasquirt, and that should be it.
and from all the threads ive seen on innovate, it seems to be more intimidating than megasquirt. now that all the mechanical stuff is done, all thats left pretty much is wiring. and thats the part that scares me. haha. but with megasquirt and innovate pretty much being the only things i have to wire, it shouldnt be too bad...
i enjoy wiring, and ive built computers but auto wiring definitely intimidates me more than anything. i just feel like if i dont wire something up correctly, than i could damage something...

You need to be taking pictures of everything. The fitment issues, how the pipework looks in the car, out of the car, etc...I cannot stress this enough.
And yes, taking everything off and doing step by step in different orders might be the solution. I'm not sure about your new setup, but on my old one it only bolted up properly if I started with the downpipe in place first.

progress.
progress. one step forward, one step back. got the turbo mounted in place with all the plumbing done. unfortunately that wasnt done two days ago because when we started to put everything in place, my buddy decided to tighted the oil feed fitting hulk tight and broke off the bangjo bolt in the block...................
so instead of putting everything in place and being finished we had to spend the rest of that night fixing the hulks rage mistake. so that was a set back of about 2-3 hours. tedious drilling in a very awkward spot. good thing we had drills on deck. i had two drills and both of my buddies had two and three drills. and good thing because only one fit in the small area, barely. grease, patience, and good music is what it takes to do that ****.
i am paranoid about heat. i think everything around my turbo, manifold, and dp is gunna get too hot. so i made some heat sleeves for a lot of the lines. I was most nervous about the oil return line because it gets pretty close to the manifold and its a rubber line. fm sent their heat sleeve for it and i put mine on it too so it should be goo.
thats with mine only on it ^^ just used a sheet of dei heat shield material.
^^ thats with both on it. nice and snug and insulated and safe.
^^ made a nice long jacket for the coolant feed line because its running in area surrounded by heat.
^^everything in place with shielding in place ready to bolt the dp up.
i havnt tried to put the dp in place yet with the turbo in first. how difficult is that going to be?
lol ^^ see the black coil around the intake on the turbo? thats my super long oil feed line FM sent me. i couldnt figure out a way to keep it away from heat but still kind of out of the way. they are sending me a new one now so no need to try and take time to hide it and tuck it away, im taking it off in a week anyway. in this picture the line is run from the block to the turbo. lol thats how long it is...

i picked up three switches today and im going to mount them somewhere under the dash or on a bracket off the bolt for the seat or something. somewhere easily accessed but out of the way and not really seen. each has an led light for when its on. i think itll look clean.
-oil pressure guage is getting hooked up to one of the extra wires for ms
-tie off all the other wires for ms off
-wire in the LC-1 which is starting to scare me after pulling up threads. do i just need to run the ground for the lc1 from the cap up to the throttle body ground for the ecu?
i took off my manual boost controller and it got put on a buddies car within 2 hours of being off my car... but i am fine to run on just the wastegate as my boost controller right? it has a 8.7psi spring in it, and thats pretty much where i would have set my manual control.
1 more issue. im having hood clearance issues with the intercooler piping and possibly the wastegate. its very very close for the wastegate so i cant tell to be 110% sure it is or isnt. but the main clearance issue is the intercooler piping. so im going to have to figure out a solution for that. trying to cut the intercooler piping to get it in place and make it fit but im not sure i can make it work with what i have. solution for now, hoods off. but thats obviously not a real solution. lol
