OK, it won't cause a boost leak since it isn't even connected to the IM.
You can works like a super old school PCV system, it let's PCV vent, and keeps the oil off the ground. It works okay, but not great. Some folks run a vented can on race cars, but they are not concerned with a little PCV smell.

Also you will need to recirculate to get rid of the smell. Because once you start sucking those fumes into the intake, your charge pipes will be full of them. I had to explain this to my mechanical engineer buddy who was like, how the hell is PCV getting in your charge pipes. He was genuinely impressed a said he wanted me on his team.

Is your exhaust shielded it where it runs right up under the fuel tank? If not you're likely pressurizing the tank. Drive it hard and stop and crack the fuel cap and see if it's pressurized.

I am missing the exhaust shield, the gas is not pressurized after a run. There is't a lot of heat back there. I'm not sure if it helps but the trunk is lined with the thin tar stuff similar to dynomat. I didn't even pay attention to the shield being gone while mounting my diffuser. Maybe once I get moved, I'll make a new one.

So if you set everything back up to stock then run a vented catch can off the valve cover to the intake, would you still have issues with PCV in the charge pipes?

the point of going back to the intake it to draw the vapors back into the system, as well as reduce the pressure under load, with the vent i dont even see the intake pulling in vapors, or having an effect on the differential.

the pcv works by spring and vacuum pressure.

So would you suggest a non-vented catch can set up like the picture above? Or dual non vented cans? I think I get what you are saying.

Go look at the last few pics of my snakes, oops I meant engine bay in my build thread 99 MK foo-foo.

I run 2 sealed cans and recirculate 18" downstream from my air filter now. All in an attempt to get rid of the crankcase fumes, all that extra piping, that's all it does.

I've ordered a valve cover and some other nick naks to fix the oil catch system. I'll be selling my current setup in the next few weeks.

I got around to installing the tray, I should have just bought some ABS and made what I needed. Oh well, I got the bottom on, and am cutting the sides. I'm not sure if I can use them at all. This is perfect for a NA miata but add the turbo and there is just too much piping.

I'd get a lot more done, but trying to build a house has killed my budget and time. So for now, only the little stuff. I've got 1/3rd or my tools at the rental.

Another thing I got in the other day was a new 5spd. I picked this up for $300 shipped. It's an 02 with 20k on it, it looks brand new. I'm starting to loose the syncros from 4-5th in my current 5 spd.

I love em too. I've got some small spacers on the car and could probably use some more. I'm glad I opted for longer studs. The car doesn't need them, but cars like yours make me what to go all out. Man I love the your blue NA.

I really want to run 15x10 and 245 on my NA, so I know I'll need flares and will color match them. Hopefully the extra meat doesn't make me regret the choice for flares.

Yea I was doing everything I could to not touch my fenders after having just gotten resprayed. So I settled on 9's. I'm still curious about trying out 10's but there has been debate on an NA chassis, err on side of caution.

So...who's good at photoshop?



Back on topic:

That R-Theory rear diffuser, are you noticing any substantiated difference without a front splitter, or is any benefit a convenient happenstance. Asking for serious, I've been thinking about getting one, but definitely have more places to invest/fix first.

I've got a track dog slitter, nothing as fancy as what I had. I originally had no areo, with the rear sway removed. That was alright at low speed but at 100+ it was a little sketchy. So I added the sway back and that made a big difference to stability. Then I added the diffuser, and I noticed additional stability at higher speeds. I'm not an expert in this by no means. But I do know this car is WAYYYY more stable at highway plus speeds than any miata I've ever owned. Maybe it is a combination of all the mods together? It looks like R Theory did some homework. For under $300 shipped I had to try it.

I've got a new valve cover in. I'm going to paint it, I'm slowly collecting all the parts to change the oil catch setup currently on the car.

I'm not a fan of buying ebay stuff personally but what do you think about two of these? Of course I would not attach the breather.

I use this one and I would trust the baffling from a summit catch can to be of better quality. Its only a few dollars more.

The tabs on the side also make for easy mounting. I have mine attached to the front waterneck block off plate so it's easy to access for draining.

Ok so oil catch mess ordered. I will probably wait until I move to deal with that, building a shop right now I should be in by the end of may.

The O2 sensors are waaaaaaa close to the turbo, isn't the rule of thumb 18" from the rear of the turbo? This is probably why I toasted an O2 not so long ago.



I've got my trans out right now, so this would be the best time to fix it.

Mounting this bad boy today. For now I am keeping the clutch/flywheel. Next time I will put a new one in, this one grips good.

How big of a job was it to drop the trans and do the clutch. It's on my to do list but I want to be a bit more sure of what I'm getting myself into. Or I might just do it when my friends and I pull the engine.
