Default Noob from melbourne-turbo track toy

Noob from melbourne-turbo track toy-m1.jpg
This is how it looked when i bought it about a year and a half ago, the idea was to use it for track days.

Noob from melbourne-turbo track toy-m2.jpg
The engine pretty much as bought. It's a 1.6 with a td05h turbo, microtec, with 128 rwkw.

Noob from melbourne-turbo track toy-m3.jpg
I relocated the air cleaner by ripping out the headlight assembley.

Noob from melbourne-turbo track toy-m4.jpg
washed and put some 16" nb wheels on it. Last time it looked like a nice street car probably.

Welcome....very cool.

We have a few serious racers on board (as well as a few aspiring ones) that would surely be interested in details of your build, and how you've dealt with common issues such as turbo stud problems, ducting and coolant reroute.

Glad to have you here.

I bought some 180sx twin headlights. Cut them out and mounted them to the headlight covers. I was a bit worried about driving arounds with one headlight as i have the air filter where the other headlight is. I made a splitter/undertray and cut some holes in the hood.

The front splitter is made of a sheet of laminated alloy and plastic core they use for signwriting. It's very stiff and light. It goes back to the crossmember.
I would be glad to help out, but i am fairly new to this myself. Only had it for about 1.5 years.
I did have stud problems but fixed now. It has also got some new b.c coilovers, chassis braces, new downpipe, etc. It now has just over 200 hp at the wheels. And the car holds the record at phillip island and sandown tracks. In our club.

Yep. I made a quick mould and hand laminated a carbon fibre one. I was asked by a few guys if i could make them one. And now i have gone a bought a vacuum infusion machine, and in the process of making a new mould to suit vacuum forming. I am looking at making c.f parts full time now.

I am doing hoods and doors next. I am looking at selling the new c.f hardtops for $850au bare and $1250au with rubbers, alloy brackets and perspex window. Pitty the shipping would probably cost too much. The new vacuum moulded hardtops should weigh under 2 kg's bare. Under 4 lbs

I'd be interested in a set of doors with no inner section. We run "NASCAR" door bars that protrude into the doors. Contact me though our website for details.

I have been waiting for this...MICROTECH. Are you running an LT-8? I posted like 2 years ago about Microtech and nobody responded with ****, cause I don't know of anybody running it. A few members are running HalTech, but not Microtech.

I worked out the labour and materials for the doors. $1260au each.

I would just infuse the whole door and the inside would have to be cut out after.

Details on hardtop- mx5cartalk.com • View topic - Carbon fibre Vac Infused Hardtops -taking orders now-

Details on doors- mx5cartalk.com • View topic - NA6/8 Carbon Fibre VAC INF Doors - Taking orders

I am making NA guards shortly, standard first then wider aero guards. About $500au

Yes LT8, i think it is best to use whatever your tuner is familiar with. The fist guy had it spot on then AVO tuned it and it's good but when between cold and normall running temp it hunts at idle. Doesn't really bother me as long as it goes hard at full noise.

I don't get out there much, as my car is not really a road car any more. Although it is still rego'd and i drive it to track days.

I changed the timing belt today and found the motor has a ported head hks cam and the harmonic balancer is a 1.8 item.

I did a coolant reroute and made a v mount set up for the intercooler. Went to a track day to see how it goes and the little heater hose that comes from the inlet to the motor popped off as i didn't mount it properly. All the water came out on the 2nd corner, but i didn't know and did 2 laps. The temp was reading high, but it would come down to 92-93c. As the temp sender was inline on the radiator hose it was just reading air temp - as there was no water to read. Now it is blowing smoke out of the rocker cover breather and down on compression on one cylinder.

Does anyone know what i have done? Head, piston? Do you think it is worth fixing? Or should i go another direction. I am tossing up to pull it apart and rebuild. Or get another complete 1.6 motor to put in for now. Maybe put in an ls1 later, or slowly rebuild my motor.
