Default Another boring, unimaginative rip-off build.

Not going to be breaking intellectual boundaries, inventing new technologies, or pushing the limits with this one. Run of the mill comes to mind, for now.... If this bores you, move on. This will be my attempt to turbo this car under some meandering logic and budget. I wouldn't call this a "budget build", but everyone has a bottom dollar, and there must be a bit of Hebrew in me. I try my best to cut costs where possible to leave money for the over9000 other projects i have going.

Speaking of I have an affliction known as car ADD. Yes, it's real. I go through cars/builds faster than Kobeyashi at a Nathans stand. My attention span is worse than a goldfish in a dentists waiting room. Let's hope this thread helps keep me motivated before I

SQUIRREL!

If you want to post memes and cat pictures, I welcome it.

In any case, I won't put myself on repeat with the intro. You can find my limited car biography here

So let's get some basics out there. Please feel free to belittle me, or give advice. Years of internet trolling has left me thickskinned. If you hate it, say so. If I'm making stupid mistakes, call me out. If you like it, please comment.

Here's what I'm working with:

2002 Base Miata
164k miles
Megan racing Ez Street (previous owner)
Eibach sways F/R
C1M's wrapped in 225/45 BFG rivals

After changing my mine with doing an LS1 swap, i needed an LSD sourced. Found one on CL that i snatched up in a hurry on my lunch break. The guy swore up and down it was a 1.8L torsen.

Not until i got it home did i find it's a 1.6 VLSD :( Sadz. So back it went, and the search continues.

The plan is pretty simple:
SR20 T25 turbo - rebuild if necessary
FM manifold
FM DP
DIY MS3 with IAT sensor (following Westfieldmx5s instructions)
Rx8 yellow Injectors
FM Stage 1 clutch
Ebay intercooler kit
Ebay BOV
Aluminum radiator - i think the OEM has about had it
Coolant/oil lines - (still researching)
exhaust - might just build myself?

This list is likely to update as I've forgotten things.

*Parts acquired

So step one is to get the MS, assemble, and begin my tuning adventure N/A while i collect parts. I have SOME tuning knowledge, but this will be my first fully solo adventure, so be mindful when i ask stupid ******* questions.

You'll notice that i also did not call out some arbitrary HP number goal. The car will make what it makes based on my choices/tuning ability, simple as that. If at some point it's not enough, then i'll add moar turboz. The car is just painfully slow right now compared to my Evo.

You're partially correct.

This is how it looked when we first acquired it.

I had to exercise the gay out of it by lifting it back to a useable height and putting real shoes under it.

I'd be lying if i said they were the worst handling CO's i've ever ridden on, but they certainly have their limitations. We'll see how long until they get upgraded, but for the time being, it's about HP.

Did you replicate my build? Real men go with knock off sr20 turbos.

Guess it's not replicating since I haven't actually built anything.

I haven't built anything yet either... so i guess we'll see who copies who.

On another note, MS3 should be here in a few days, but I'm finding that the connector for simple PNP into the factory harness is challenging to find at a reasonable price.

Onlinecomponents.com has stock of the item, but there's a minimum order of $30. Tack on the shipping and it's nearly $40 for one connector.

Does anyone have a spare 1123038-2 connector they'd be willing to part with? 1123038-2 TE Connectivity / AMP Brand | Headers & Pcb Receptacle Connectors

Email websales@diyautotune.com. I got a couple 64-pin connectors from them a few months ago, but I can't find them on the website anymore. Otherwise a DIYBOB is a bit more pricey but will look really clean.

i think i may have an extra connector or two. I ordered a bunch and put them up in the fs section several years ago. I figured i'd just redistribute them so others wouldn't have to make a minimum order. My puppy at the time also got ahold of the one i was working on so it was nice to have a second. haha. I'll check when i get home from work.

My plan is to follow Westfield's instructions by installing the connector inside the MS box. I don't plan to make some jumper harness of any sort.

That would be killer, let me know.

I also neglected to mention that i'll be bypassing the fancy NB alternator control and going simple with an NA alternator.

Just got back from Autox. It was POURING rain. Note: BFG rivals do poorly in the wet.

Anyways, this showed up friday:

I'll probably clean and rebuild the injectors myself. I've done it before on another vehicle, and they turned out good. Granted they won't be flowed to verify, but I got such a good deal on these that I'll roll the dice and see how they perform.

So i also emailed DIYautotune, and they do not sell the Nippon Denso 122pin connector by itself. :( I might just have to order 4 of them and meet that minimum fee.

I'm interested in injector refurb knowledge. I have those same injectors and I wanna make sure they're good to go for me.

This is how i did it on my jeep build:

Zombie Rescue Unit 1 - Page 15 - JeepForum.com

Basically, get a medical syringe, a battery, a rebuild kit and some brake clean.

Hook up the syringe and use the brake cleaner to pressurize with fluid. Always backflush first several times, and 'pulse' the injectors. Then forward flush them. Install new pintle caps and filter baskets.

Picked up a T25 turbo for $100 on craigslist. The impeller has side-side and fore-aft movement, so i think I'll be rebuilding it.

I did notice a SMALL amount of marring on the impeller blades. It doesn't look like anything went through the turbo, just a slight bit of "rash" on the edges. I'm not sure if this is from someone not running a filter? Other than that, it looks pretty clean ...

Not sure how well that picture shows it. Is this anything i should be concerned with, or just roll with it, since it's a $100 turbo?
