I arrived at KO Racing last night and pulled my TSE rad. pressurized it off the car. Air hissing everywhere. Toast.

Need it tuned, need it ready for track day monday. went to Richard's (Mobius) house last night at 10 PM to pick up his old stock rad and then back to Oregon City and dropped it at KO. He's likely going to install it today and we will tune tonight/tomorrow. I'll have the car back in my grubby hands and in my lame carport tomorrow evening at the latest hopefully (it'd be a nice birthday present).

Sunday morning I plan to go up to Eric's (kaisersoze) house to pull the 500 mile Koyo R out of his MSM, and I'll prolly throw his TSE rad in for him while I'm at it (he offered to sell me the TSE rad, but I just don't have that much more money to spare). Then I'll go home and install the Koyo in my car as a semi-permanent solution, and hopefully be ready for the track day monday.

U kidding me? I had 2 replacement radiators lined up within 3 hours! Sheesh.

Car is ready for tuning. Tuner decided he wants to do it tomorrow. Unfortunately he decided that after I drove out there and so did my friend, but he has been unbelievably helpful so far so inconvenience is forgiven.

TSE map is loaded and car starts and runs. Proper tuning commences in the morning. Wish I could b there but I have to work.

Sadness.

Here's what I don't get:

how do you go from scraping for cash, trying to figure out a way to get your car back on the road for as cheap as possible, to buying a ton of cars for no apparent reason?

Not that I have anything against buying cars all the time lol

Not that I really have to explain myself, but why not?

Good paychecks, really. Also, I have a card that gets loaded with money from Mazda for cars I sell. I didn't realize it was actually getting loaded til mid June, and by then there was almost $4k on it.

I'm buying the cars for profit. With the wagon, after getting it on the road we would sell our other TDI VW and pocket cash there. I also have a limited amount of money to spend on a hobby. Just cause I have money doesn't mean I can spend it on the Miata. That's why I usually try to say stuff like "I can't spend the money on X" rather than "I can't afford it."

Some of the times during the course of this venture though I've definitely been spread VERY thin. Right after I bought the car back I think I was down to like $400 in my bank account

Now that this jetta wagon is out of the picture, I can relax a bit and pay for the tuning and stuff instead of putting it on the card, which is a relief. I don't make much money really but we don't have a ton of expenses.

Ahh I see. That makes sense. No worries, like I said I'm the last person to judge someone for buying up cars

It's all ups and downs, the hope is the ups are bigger than the downs.

For instance, I bought the MSM for $1500 and made $3000 on it, I found a '99 head and a few other bits for $100 at a garage sale, sold it for $400. Then I sold my Lancer for $5900, and financed another $5150 for the '01. My wife and I paid off 2 big credit cards, but we're holding on to $2k in case I want to buy this:

95 MAZDA MIATA INCLUDES HARD TOP

I'd sell the hardtop, swap to a manual with MSM parts, and then anything over ~$1300 would be profit.

But you know how all that works.

Just F my Fing L.

Wideband was reading correctly on the dyno (value in AEM tuner matched value from probe). Now AEMTuner reads 11-11.2 no matter what.

Another damned thermostat stopped working. No more thermostat for now. Put in a gutted one.

AEM froze up, after rebooting everything it started working again but that's when the AFR reading went flat.

Going to go home and try again tomorrow. I'm sooooo sick of this.

Did you try the "test" to see if it reads correctly? **** man, I feel bad for you at this point. Especially since those damn sensors are not cheap in the least. I haven't tested my spare yet and if it is broke I need to buy a backup to keep in my car just in case.

How the hell does the TSE unit have so many holes in it? I say JB weld the hell out of it and call it a day!

Also, **** that seller. Granted, I really don't think you could have rebuilt the front end for as cheap as you imagined you could. Not saying you don't have the frugal part finding skill/ability, just that there is a lot of **** jammed into that tiny engine bay. I hate working on anything in that engine bay. It redefines tight space. You have to remove 3-4 parts just to get at the part you need to work on.

It has occurred to me that perhaps the TSE rad was destroyed along with the heater core in the subfreezing temps. Can't blame TSE for that. It's like it's been aerated. It didn't even leak under normal use really.

Tuner says we can just tune using the dyno reading. Don't need to worry about the wideband signal. He says that it could also be the scaling settings or something like that. He also likes to point out how much better he likes the hydra. He's got a point. I've been feeling pretty let down with the EMS4 and the bugginess of theAEM Tuner software but who knows, it could just be because he's not familiar with it.

Doesn't your tuner have his own WBO2 probe to stick up the tailpipe?

Yes, that's what he said they could use. Although I've done that, and it's more than a little frustrating, or at least slightly more time consuming. I'd much rather use the slow dyno pull to auto tune in some fuel, then sit there and select, increase, pull again, select, increase, pull again, etc. The ONE time our fueling was a little out of wack before hitting a dyno (first MS install in Lazarus [because we had the wrong AFR targets]) it took one pull to smooth it out and add fuel towards the top.

I must say, this car exemplifies the Ti curse in so many ways.... Stick with the ems4 its a pretty great ecu with a lot of capabilities.

There's no real point if no one can tune it, or if it spends endless days on a dyno with stupid problems like passwords and wideband issues.

Heading to Portland to pick up the radiator and then to KO for a last shot. I'm at the point where I want to get it drivable again and if I have more issues with this ecu time to order MS3 from Rev.
