Also: I've run Corbeaus in a few cars. I love me some FX1 Pro. Currently have A4s in the 95, and the seat itself is quite nice, it just doesn't fit a Miata too well.

The FX1 pro doesn't fit in a Miata too well? That's good to know.

Any input on MS? Ha.

The A4 doesn't fit too well.

It fits... but it's high. Would be much better on lower rails/such. I haven't bothered trying to figure it out. They'll probably live in my MX6 and i'll try FX1 Pros in the Miata. (Should sit lower, and narrower. A4s are a little wide for my girlish figure.)

I'd just go MS3Pro. Because when the new hotness is only $150 more, why not?

DIYAutotune MSPNPPRO PROS:
-waterproof (don't really care)
-the newest hotness? <- this is the biggest reason I'd consider one. It's supposedly using newer and cooler circuitry/design. the down side is that for whatever stupid reason, they don't have USB output and still requires the use of the stupid serial plug, which no laptop past like 1998 uses. I dunno the reason for that.
Am I correct that the MS3Basic needs some modification to do sequential ignition and/or injection? Do I care? I don't need VVT but it seems it can do VVT anyway...
all 94+ miata's can run seq fuel without any modification. spark is different, but most MS3's built by brain and rev have that too
Josh, The MSPNPPro comes with a basemap for a stock car. Since mine is far from stock, it would obviously need to be tweaked for my injectors, though I do still have stock ignition. How difficult is this? Is this something I need to take into account or is it something of a moot point?
no matter what you still have to completely re-tune the car. I've yet to see a base map that "ONLY" requires a bit of veal tuning and you're done. doesn't work that way unless you have the most basic/common setup in teh universe
A final option, another forum member has offered to build me an MS3 at a SUBSTANTIALLY lower price.. Obviously we'd have to obtain a basemap from somewhere else and all that... How would that ECU compare with Rev's?
This is risky because then you're relying on that person for EVERYTHING, since there are about eleventy billion different ways people can put one together and set one up
A million questions... I've been reading all over the place but the information gets soooo confusing!
welcome to megasquirt: there is more information than you know what to do with, and you have to sift through 80% of it that is un-applicable or downright wrong to get to the stuff that's relevant and accurate....lolz
Thanks for any and all input.

Both are great products, only downside to Rev's units is the wait between responses if you get him after he's off to bed, which is like 2pm our time. Yes you need to open the case and move some jumpers to enable sequential injection. Not hard to do, but again that was a delay with Ryan's build, because said picture of jumper orientation took 12 hours to get.

Rev has spoke of a writeup for what wires and jumpers do what in what position, but I'm not sure when that's coming.

DIY definitely has the upper hand with that.

You can run sequential injection with your stock harness like Vlad said, but sequential ignition would require LS or toyota COPs obviously.

Another thing about the MS-Pro is that it uses significantly better hardware than the current DIY offerings (not what DIYAutoTune.com offers but what you can make yourself) it has a better designed board and better faster components. I'm not sure about what Revs boards are like though. Its almost at a flip a coin point. They are both great pieces of hardware with a very small price difference. Neither one will ever actually limit what you want to do with your car.

I guess my biggest interest is cost/hassle ratio. I want to do whatever will cause the least hassle. But the forum member who offer is at about half the price of the PNPPro. So that is awfully tempting too. Josh I'll msg you about it.

Thanks again for the input gentlemen. It's now between the Pro and the custom unit.

This seems relevant. I read through this whole thread and I had to laugh at those saying you should get a whole new body and stumbled on this and remembered your car. Yes your damage is a bit worse but people thinking it cant be repaired are just crazy. And its even a miata in the video!

If this can be done paintless imagine how much more can be repaired if the paint needs to come off by welding pins and more agressive hammering and dollying.
i enjoyed your thread you have an awsome build.

Thanks for the kind words.

Unfortunately, that video isn't really relevant to my car. That damage is strictly cosmetic in that video, and the paint wasn't damaged. My fender liner is badly damaged and the fender is pushed up. Mine will require full replacement of the panel, no way to make this one right, or at least not practical to make it right.

Going to a new shell really wouldn't have been a bad idea, but for now I'm glad I did what I did. Part of me, however, wishes I had re-tubbed into an OBD1 car for emissions ease.

Edit: stupid post.

How is emissions in Portland with a turbo? Is it just a sniffer test if you're OBD1? I haven't done emissions since I moved down here for school.

In Portland with OBD1 it's a sniffer test. OBD2 has to pass all the junk, basically the same as Cali smog. I currently live in "albany" so for now I am good to go, but I might not always have that other address as my permanent address.

I'm working on keeping an address here in Corvallis so I can skip the DEQ. I hate that place.
