VVT for all the powers. Seriously, if you need a new head go VVT. Just make sure to check the flatness. When I was at the machine shop the first thing the machinist did was check the straightness of the top of the head, along where the camshaft goes. He said that this would tell us if the full head was warped and not just the surface. It was one of those "Some other shops don't do this which makes me the best" times but I learned something at least.

Also my head had a reman plug on it, which meant it wasn't a factory head. Know anything about that Josh or Martin?

Like, remove the cam and check it across the cam journals? Or across the contact surface for the caps? That's actually pretty clever.

I had pulled the cams, yep, he laid down a machinists edge on the cam journals (I think, not sure if the terminology is right, but I could show you) and was able to tell me if my head was junk before he even looked at the bottom.

From Andrew (Savington):

.014 is done. No way to straighten it. It happened when you overheated it. You can heat it up and straighten it, but the moment you heat it up again it will banana immediately.
OK. Well.... 90% sure I'm going VVT.

I'll make sure they've done the same test at the shop I brought the head to. They wanted the cams I think he said because he was surprised they were seized. I guess I haven't looked real close at the journals for hot spots.

If he did the flat bar test and it was .014" off, I don't think Ed and I will be going any further.

I have a reman head ... aren't you already Club Orange?

Edit: and I think the latest news bears repeating part of the thread title: ***!

Ok NO. I'm not buying a CNC head. No.

Ah.

I don't understand the *** reference, unless you're referring to me destroyingthe head by using an idiotic high flow thermostat. Definitely as *** move. Or maybe a dick move. Whatever, this is where that all comes together anyway.

Oh, no, it wasn't a reference to you at all. Damn, sorry, didn't mean it that way. It was just a vehement exclamation. You know, the head is all warped. SUCKS ***! That's how I meant it.

Oh god. Don't even tempt him. You can buy another Miata for CNC head prices.

Lol. Yeah there's absolutely no way I'd go CNC head. Boost is easy. CNC head not required. Cool, but no.

I came here hoping to see more 10AE progress and I left knowing your pain. If you've got any Spec Miata shops around, see if they have any modified, yet illegal for SM going forward, heads laying around they want to sell. I picked up one from a top SM shop for about 60% of what they cost before the 2014 Run Offs.

I like this idea (illegal spec head). If you guys actually do know of someone please come out and say it because I do not understand your hints.

Spent some time looking at S2000's on CL yesterday... then stopped and started calling around to try to find a head for sale.

For one, your roommate doesn't have a clue about cars so I'm guessing he also doesn't know how to drive. Maybe I'm wrong.

For two, it's just a different experience.

But for three, you're right.

So, I decided I needed another project. Won a wrecked S2k at auction this morning.

Pics and info forthcoming. I'm a bit nervous with the amount of damage, but I've been assured that our repair guy can fix it.

'04 suzuka blue w/blue interior, 37k miles. All 100% original, stock. Needs new driver side control arms front and rear, new driver rear wheel, new driver front fender, and probably some tweaking.

Woot. More work to do.
