Howdy, I am Schooner this thread is about my ongoing, never ending quest to de-OEMify with my miata with performance in mind, while relieving my wallet of dollars.
About 8 years back I was rather enjoying my autocross hobby but I was fresh off blowing up the apex seals on my 1990 RX-7 Turbo II and got rid of it. I had my mind made up I wanted a miata next.
I live in California and am apartment living so I need to be able to register the car and smog it to street park it. I also knew I wanted to leave open the possibility to add boost to it later if I decided to jump up autocross classes from STS to SSM. The particular class I wanted to autocross with a miata in,did not allow for limited slip diffs, so I knew I was looking for a 1994 or 1995 base model.
I found and bought a cosmetically rough 1995 base model with power steering as only option, which is a fairly rare miata option for a base model since it was only offered a la carte in 1995. I have grown to very much prefer autocrossing miatas with power steering than with manual steering, I think it comes down to faster rack for me.

This car is now on its second engine, the first engine cracked a piston #4 shortly after installing a used BEGI-S turbo kit:

rebuilding my blown engines bottom end with an over-bore mated to a 2001+ VVT head with a VVT controller box and multitoothed crank wheel with NB sensor wired into MSPNP2 for sequential spark and finer engine resolution.
TSE turbo kit
koni 3012 coilovers, or whatever the new hot fire is... something from 949racing I'm guessing.
