Things radiate heat better if they are black, counter-intuitive but true. Paint doesn't help things radiate heat often, though.

How do you see how much coolant is in the bottle if it's painted? Mine's not perfect, but I can at least see through it.

Found cheap studs that should be long enough but they don't have a shoulder too fat or long to pull through the aluminum.

7518378 STUD-3/8-24X1.38,PRESS FIT-Z $0.80

at 0.80, they aren't much more expensive than square bolts.

edit: I'm crossing threads, my bad lol

That "test" with the painted intercooler that Mighty Car Mods did is massively flawed. Don't paint your intercooler...

I always wondered about that test. Never did enough research about it.

I couldn't see through my old bottle so I didn't care much. If it had been clearer I would have taped off a sight area.

yes, I read the thread where this was discussed, watched the video. Not painting intercooler.

lol, was wondering where that came from

you can always just mask off a stripe to leave natural, or just pull the cap and look inside.

Im looking but cant find it. I think it was a thread derail, not a thread dedicated to painting intercoolers.

Anodize... hmmm, what are the thermal characteristics of aluminum oxide?

What he said. The primary heat transfer is via convection, not radiation. Thus painting it is insulating it.

I think you were one of the people discussing this in "the thread". Do you recall which thread?

I don't remember a thread about that. But it's simple heat transfer. I have had a few threads here where I was ridiculed about something regarding heat transfer by people who don't understand it. There's a few threads on that. Hell I earned this sweet avatar from one of them! Makes me laugh.

I don't think you'll have a swell time trying to anodize an intercooler, things that aren't aluminum in the bath will make a royal mess.

Aluminum oxide is pretty decent at moving heat though, at least if I remember right, better than the aluminum under it, closer to copper IIRC.

I was going to paint mine, the front at least. I highly doubt you will ever see any repeatable data one way or the other as to what works better.

It was given to Hyper when he was posting a long time ago about his hyper reroute crap. He didn't understand heat transfer. And in some thread about cooling a few guys that don't understand heat transfer but like to insult others argued and insulted me. Someone got there feelings hurt, and gave me this avatar. Dunno who, but either way I think it's hilarious!

Ahhhh that was a fun one.

It was about you're reroute. We don't need to go down that (re)route again

I mean were all running ebay intercoolers, its not like were at the pinnacle of air charge cooling anyways.

I'm going to get some scrap aluminum sheet and practice welding. Will probably build a catch can, or coolant reservoir for fun.

I put the lightest spring set in it, and backed the screw off all the way, so it was cracking open just by revving it to 2500rpm and closing throttle without even getting boost. It was concerning at first as it sounded like a high pitched grinding noise, chirppy thing. As soon as I realized it, I preloaded the screw a few turns and it shutup for now, but thats what its going to sound like when its doing its job under boost, just louder.

I wanted a loud BOV, just not annoying sounding. I imagined a poooooooffffff-buh-buh-buh-cchhhhheeeerrrrrrrrrrfffffff, not a charp! charp! charp!-**** you here I am loook at me- chirp ************!

I bought it because I thought that my turbos cbvvb whatever was not going to make noise, but it makes the perfect amount of noise.
