adding the pass vent on the pcv side makes sense, so just route it to the spare fitting on the catch can and call it a day.

(pic works for me, it's attached here.)
It took several refreshes to get the attached picture to show up. I will run up to the hydraulic shop today during lunch and get a -6AN line made and run it to my catch can to. Hopefully with both venting to the can it will work.

I am still planning on ordering new plates for my VC and redoing those.

Yeah, that was my plan originally. The pcv/intake side issue was 'first' seen by bbundy i'm pretty sure. post 40 is where he runs into the issue.

https://www.miataturbo.net/general-miata-chat-9/crankcase-breather-catch-can-evac-system-thread-55877/

i guess if car is only street driven its probably not too big of a concern. perhaps if the can was mounted in front of the engine as depicted in that pic, rather than back passenger corner of the bay, the additional hose required and bends would 'help' prevent oil from getting into the can as well. also bbundy had a vacuum on his can from the exhaust, which was perhaps helping the oil get up in there as well.

i still may go my original route (brain's pic above) and just see what happens and go from there.

I have a spare VC. I might have something like this done. Just remove the baffles completely and have 2 -10an bungs welded on with plates how that is.

Do it while the car is down.

I just drained my catch can and about 3 drops of oil came out. So I am going with that I simply was not venting enough air.

awesome. I went ahead and ordered 2 -10 weld on bungs this morning. I'll probably be doing both sides to the can. Let us know if you have any issues with oil spilling out the intake side.

neogenesis2004 says that is what the 600+hp honda guys are doing and it works. I tend to trust him on a good number of things.

I will let you know if I have any oil coming out the intake side. Hopefully in the next few nights I can actually go tune in boost and see if that changes anything. When I have my spare VC done I am truly thinking of having 2 on the exhaust side going to one catch can and 1 on the intake side going to a separate catch can.

Cool build so far. Moar build pics! I like the idea of welding in plates on the underside of the valve cover to vent air rather than oil. Subscribed.

Those plates are interesting. Can someone explain to me what they do? Are they welded on at an angle to limit the opening for the bung?

As lars say Its nothig new. Just a mini baffle to keep oil from gettin splashed into the hole or as much blown out.

Ideally the plate will not restrict the hole

This is a standar high hp "thing". We dont see this r&d in thr miata community focuses on other stuff like stupid broken turbo studs and spec miata rape

So I have a few updates.

This is how I am currently running my VC baffles. I was talking to the guy who was doing the welding about it. He drag races a Vette pushing 20psi out of 2 turbos so he has had to deal with this issue a little bit. So he has a little bit of knowledge. Before he welds on the baffles like in the Honda VC, he wanted me to try with just the plates cut short. Basically long enough to cover where the 3 vent holes were, but to still allow lots of air. He was saying with the stock baffle plates that it was possibly building a high pressure area under them, which is something FailFlora thinks to. So he is hoping with half plates it should work well. If it does not he said then he would do the other type of baffles.

Here is my car almost done. I still need to install my altornator belt and put a fitting on my intercooler pipe for my IAC. I will be doing that today. I have 2 of the VC lines venting to the catch can on the passenger side. The one coming out the passenger side VC actually hits the hood and pushes it up a little bit. The hydraulic shop was out of 90degree -10an fittings so I had to use a straight one there. I am planning to switch it to a 90 degree one later next week and that should get rid of hitting the hood.

I was planning on taking the car out to an Autox on Monday. Unfortunately Thursday night I found out that my radiator is leaking from somewhere in the fins. So that killed that idea. I got 4 years out of a $130 radiator so I think it was a good deal. The radiator was from the original group buy on them we had back in 2008. I have since then ordered another cheap ebay one. I am also going to order the TSE radiator. When the TSE one gets in I will swap that in, and then put the ebay radiator in my DD.

Yeah when he described what he wanted me to do I was confused at first. I thought he wanted me to cut the baffles in the VC. Then he was like no, just cut the plates in half and leave off the center one.

Ohh I will give you some sausage.

The car is back together and starts up fine. Tomorrow morning I am planning on flashing to a much newer firmware and then parking her until I get a radiator in that does not leak. Also once I have confirmed that the half baffles do or don't work. I will paint the VC and make it look much better.
