Forgot to mention that the ugly alternator I got is an origina and non-remanufactured. However, it was still made by Mitsubishi in Cincinnati, so it will probably still fail shortly.....

This one is from an MX-6

Excluding the cost of my alternator it was only $50 for a full rebuild and a 3 year warranty. Worth it Soviet.

I grew up on Construx, my small bag of Technic parts wasn't enough to make anything.

Waaaay back before the anime even became something that American kids knew about, we had Zoids construction kits.

its really baller, i'll post pics later

Worked on the Miata last night. Alternator all hooked up, works great.

HOWEVER

Megasquirt is still showing 16V+. In fact, voltage displayed in TunerStudio has no correlation to voltage displayed by volt meter. TunerStudio shows higher voltage than battery.

What the actual ****? The old alternator was probably fine, after all.

And if the MS thinks the voltage is wrong, then its using the wrong value for the injector battery offset, making the car run shitty.

yes, everything runs shitty with wrong voltage

The voltage is also not wrong by a fixed offset but starts creeping when the car is running. e.g. it would start at 14v and climbs to 16v in a few seconds.

Well I fixed the issue. It turned out to be.... the fuel pressure sensor. Its a 5V sensor and when its plugged in, MS doesn't get full 5V and acts all kinds of stupid!

The insane part is that the fuel pressure sensor was what I used to diagnose the 'dead' fuel pump - well, it might have been fine all along and just the sensor was reading completely wrong value.

I'm pissed but happy that I can drive the miata tomorrow. Its not tuned anymore since now I have no idea what the fuel pressure is set to.

Thanks for updating us! Great to read what MAY be the cause of issues if I have the same problems. Glad you are rolling again, now I need to get mine rolling again!

Its an ebay 100psi sensor
Pressure Transducer or Sender 100 PSI Stainless Steel for Oil Fuel Air Water | eBay

I will try to figure out WHY its causing this.

In the meantime, drove the car and it felt good
