Default JC's '96 Miata "InsertExcitingShitHere"

Decided to start a build thread in attempt to increase my post count.

Bought her like this 3 years ago. April of 2011.

Past cars include:

An s13 that just did not work out.

And an civic hatchback that I sold for way less than what I could have parted it out for.

More to come later.

Coilovers were installed and bad stuff happened.

Then I jumped on a bandwagon look which resulted to this.

Didn't take long for some friends involved in HPDE to influence me though..

My old radiator cracked somewhere down the road so I replaced it with an automatic one.

And I did an exhintake + timing advance with dieselmiata

and then found these. more later.

Not a strong intro bro.

This really does get better. Much of the AIDS has been removed, he's on real coilovers and has a manly wheel/tire setup, and is doing more track time. I even convinced him to go with a megasquirt before doing the turbo.

Unfortunately he's allergic to cats, and I can't help with that.

bro thanks for the support bro.

Bad **** happened.

crashed the front end like a dumbass. massaged the hood back into place, sourced a smurf blue nose from isellmiataparts.com's local warehouse.

hood wouldn't shut anymore so i deleted the stock latch system and picked up some hood pins. then went for these turn signal intakes.

performed a foamectomy on the driver's seat.

cleaned up my unicorn wheels. they have some lightly used zIIs on them

Picked up a Zamp helmet. ***** nice.

Lack of credit to your mechanic on all the work done to your car and all your free beer consumed. Your garage fee just went up. /unsubscribing

^This guy was involved and continues to be a major help. I was saving to acknowledge your existence when we got to my LSD. Negative cookie points for selling out and getting rid of your track-prepped NB for a gorgeous FD.

Here is my car with Aaron's in his garage.

And here's my slow *** performance at a recent autocross.

Moar updates soon. I know there are so many other **** I should get to better my autox performance but having friends with quick cars just keep making the boost idea better and better.

P.S. I am on a set of Flyin Miata VMaxx Sport Package w/ adjustable dampening. Car needs more mods but Dieselmiata & flying_solo have both been pushing me towards Megasquirt before anything else. Looking forward to mods over the winter.

Updates to the thread.

Torsen 1.8 fully paid for !!! I wish I had a pic but its' safe and sound, ready for install.

Received this used FM setup from Onyxyth. Props to him for holding it for me and giving me a great deal. Real honest and cool guy. I wish you luck on your re-build, buddy. Manifold will need to be ceramic-coated.

Also got these for a deal. Used rear mudflaps. Will require a repaint and won't look complete without side diffusers.

Removed my valve cover and did this to it.

Girlfriend surprised me with an R-package lip for my birthday.

Also started a Google Drive spreadsheet to track my build.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets..._tw/edit#gid=0

Shooting for a DIYPNP next month. Car is now stored away for the winter.
Til' next time.

Thanks a lot bud. Yeah the parts came in great! I should have taken pictures of the meticulous packaging. It was really well done and impressive.

A unprecedented event is about to speed this build up a bit. Stay tuned for pics of a DIYPNP build & an sr20 t25 rebuild.

Well.. This last month has been full of both curses and smiles.

Adam (flying_solo) and I met up with Aaron (dieselmiata) at his garage. He already had my car up on jackstands, ready for the motor pull.

By noon that day, motor and trans were out. We quickly got to the busy work: swapping back to stock cams (used to have exhintake), applying the reroute kit, replacing the injectors, and installing the new clutch.

Most of this day was taken up by making hardware runs for all sorts of different little things that were missing.

We removed all traces of and A/C...and EGR--which will be problematic when I scurry about to pass emissions Spring of next year.

On another day, it took us a whole afternoon to fit the giant hose of the reroute kit onto the motor after. I hope readers who plan to do the reroute kit learn from this. INSTALL IT WITH THE MOTOR OUTSIDE THE CAR. Here you can see the fat Mishimoto radiator that I installed as well.

After buttoning up most of the parts, with a few bolts either missing or broken, we left with high spirits one night on our second week of the project. the car idled hesitantly but smoothly. I will never forget the huge smile on my face after that first startup.

More later.

Just as the car started up, we find that it wouldn't go into gear when the car was idling.

The clutch in question is a brand new ACT Stage 1 Heavy Duty Organic purchased from Goodwin Racing for $461 shipped. Only reason why I bought this thing was because the Flyin' Miata Happy Meal was on backorder at the time and it was the only other reputable clutch that this forum harped about.

We must've dropped the trans 4 times to check for all sorts of ****. Clutch disk on backwards? No. Bad hydraulics? Replaced the Master, Slave and soft line = still no change. Bled the **** out of the system. Nothing.

We're feeling defeated and believe the car to be cursed at this point. Until we try Aaron's brand new-ish OEM clutch set and it works! We report our findings to Brian Goodwin whose response was "In 20 years I've never had that problem. I have one on of those same clutches on my supercharged 94. Call ACT and tell me what they say."

Long story short.. ACT has good customer service and the clutch is on its way to them for inspection and testing.

Meanwhile, I drove this thing home after a month. Clean/waxed it. Started auto-tuning it and currently working on its FMIC routing.

More soon.

dumb question, did you adjust the clutch free play? obviously a different clutch but I had to take out all of the free play for my FM clutch to go into gear
