Default nixapgt's boostin barbie car (holsets are obnoxious...)

back in april i decided a miata would be the perfect platform to start my next project. so i hopped on craigslist and started my search. after a few weeks a '94 with low miles popped up for a great price so i picked it up.

couldnt let the car stay stock for long, so back on craigslist and the forums i went. the same week i purchased the car i found a set of low mileage bc racing coilovers and a set os sportmax's

i drove around on the sportmax's for a while, but couldnt stand the rubbing. i wasnt about to risk tearing up the body on a 74k mile miata to fit these wheels. sold them and picked up a set of c1m 15x8's. i also installed a momo wheel, greddy shift ****, jvc in-dash tv, touge run lip, kgauto wing, andhad a custom x-brace rollbar built

then it was time to start saving for boost. started searching the classifieds for good deals. pte1000cc injectors, tial wg and bov, holset hy35, diypnp, aem wideband, gfb g-force ebc, aeromotive fpr, and a 29x9x3 ebay intercooler. went to a local shop and had a log, downpipe, and aluminum intercooler piping made (same shop that made the rollbar)

NICE NICE! I especially like how you opted away from the "trendy" crazy-fitment wheels for something that fits better!

May I ask why you're going to use the aeromotive fpr and the walbro fuel pump if you're going to use a standalone? 'Cause you won't need them...

I appreciate the responses! I still need to look into the walbro 190hp a little more it seems. The goal is somewhere around 400whp on e85. At that level the fpr/255 seemed like a safe choice, especially with 1000cc injectors. Or will the stock for/190hp suffice?

What did you use to paint the compressor housing?

Spraypaint...it's not like it will get hot enough damage the paint.

I see no fail here at all, unless you mean "failed to fail".
Great start man. Looks like you got everything figured out

Yes he will need them. For e85 I suggest Walbro 255HP or the new 300 one that DW just released. At 400whp he will need a humongous pump and the 190 won't cut it.

The FPR isn't a bad idea either for his setup, from what I read/heard. If you check the ID1000's discussion thread Emilio commented on higher pressrue helping the fuel atomize more efficiently/etc.

the aeromotive fpr is leftover from a previous project so i figured it wouldnt hurt to use it. id rather just do everything once with this car, which is why i have been fairly selective in buying parts. we went with a 3" cutout in between the downpipe and exhaust so that i could run stock exhaust (love low key and quiet), but not have to sacrifice power. i'll post pics of things as they come along. the head is currently being ported so i will have flow numbers for that as well.

thanks guys! 18psi, your build inspired me to sell my msm turbo setup to go bigger. i picked the tial up from honda-tech (lol) classifieds for $125 shipped and the holset from cumminsforums for $325. i think the hy35 is going to surprise a few people response wise. needs a tune and a clutch (competition clutch stg.4) asap. still tryin to decide if i want to run my 560's and 93, the1000's and take my chances with the e85 "winter" blend.

Thanx man. Glad to inspire

Unless you live 100 miles away from an e85 station or some other excuse like that, there really isn't any comparison between the two.

And what is this winter blend talk?
I heard it here and there, but when asking around locally everyone seems to say that nothing changes and we get the same e85 year round.

Maybe other states/cities are different? i dunno

i actually live less than a mile from a station that carries e85. i'll ask my roomate more specifics on the winter blend thing, as he praises e85 (656whp dsm). he was saying that cold starts are a bitch with it as well, 35 degrees right now.
