Cool V-band galore

I'm past the denial stage and have decided to convert my current setup (BEGI S3, GT2560, 3" Enthuza w/cat) to v-band fasteners.

Design constraints:
- will reintroduce waste before CAT and
- will keep CAT to pass emissions and be road legal on the Nordschleife during Touristenfahrten.

Next step is getting my shopping list together. So far:
- New manifold (OTS or AbsurdFlow)
- Adjust downpipe
- Adjust IC inlet piping

TiAL goodies:
- TiAL Wastegate 38mm MVS, 1 bar spring
- TiAL turbine housing, V-band 2" inlet and 3" outlet, GT28, .64 A/R
(need to check if this is the correct one for my GT2560R)
- Stainless Flange, Turbine inlet (manifold side)
- Tial Stainless V-band Clamp, Turbine inlet (manifold side)
- Stainless Flange, Turbine (downpipe side)
- Tial Stainless V-band Clamp, Turbine (downpipe side)

Some random accessories that I will update at the time:
- Oil drain flange/gasket
- T-bolt clamps
- May need to adjust oil feed line and water feed/return line

Will also inspect and renew as necessary:
- Head-to-manifold gasket, nuts, studs

WHAT ELSE?

Hustler will be next, then a big gap I presume.
Sav better make his car rock solid and not fail a v-band on his first event.

I doubt Hustler will do it. If Sav's fails, I doubt I'll do any more.

FYI, the last time I talked to Tial they didn't make a V-band turbine for the smaller GT25XX turbo. The smallest is for the larger exducer GT28XX turbos.

EDIT: IF TiAL did make a turbine housing (which has a 3" outlet), I don't know about making a V-band mate up to your not-3-inch-at-turbine-flange BEGI SSGP while still making all the necessary bends. One of my 3" replacement downpipes would be pretty simple to do however, and blend the external wastegate down the line somewhere.

TiAL Sport.com
Lightweight Full V-Band Housing for the GT25 Series Garrett Turbochargers

TiAL - GT25 & GT28 Turbine Housing

* Aprox. 33% turbo weight reduction
* Cast stainless steel provides a beautiful smooth finish inside and out
* Full V-Band utilization eliminates the need for bolts and gaskets
* V-Band inlet design allows for pivoting of the turbo to aid clearance issues and tight fits
* 3 A/R options for EACH turbo
* Overall turbine housing size is smaller while maintaining greater strength

Note From TiAL:
Due to extreme high demand, we may not always have these housings in stock. when you place your order prepare for a two or three week wait unless we notify you at time of purchase.

*These housings can be purchased with or without turbocharger.

Well that is good. If the Tourists are farting then you should help offset their 'emissions' by keeping the catalytic converter

Though it is damn tempting, just for the mechanical sexiness alone, I also will not go v-band due to the cost if I can make the bolted flanges work on the track.

The closest you'll get to experiencing the ring is me posting about it

I would too, but my cast manifold is fucked up, the holes are too wide. I would need to heli-coil it, find Inconel studs, then to find I am stranded again one hour into a €300 track day event making 2psi boost at WOT with the turbo touching the ground. I am fed up and want to drive for a year and only replace wear parts.

@TurboTim: thanks for the reply, I would guess sending my down pipe across the world twice is not the best option.

Just got confirmation from ATPturbo.com: housing is for the GT2560R and is in stock, as is the MVS. Getting the order together.

If Trey has one more failure, I think he actually might jump ship. I bet you'll see 3, maybe 5, but definitely not 10.

rharris is also doing it...he's BEGi's first S4 v-band kit. If he shows up at Harris Hill and runs without problems I see hustler following suit.

That's pretty funny, I called ATP and got the opposite info...the smallest turbo the tial housings fit is the 2860rs. Having had both 2560 & 2871's in front of me at the same time, the casting is the same but the internal machining is different (different diameter wheel). There's one part number for the Tial 25/28 housing (according to TiAL). I called TiAL and the lady said the turbines on the GT25xx and GT28xx are the same...which is not correct. You'll be able to bolt it together and I'm sure it'd make boost, but there's going to be about a .125" gap around the wheel and the turbine housing. ATP confirmed this; I guess we talked to different people.

I hope they do make it, I'd like to run it with the 2560 on my car. Please post a pic of the turbine installed on your center section (view of the outlet showing the wheel). And an ATP part number would be cool too so I can call them back and bitch.

looks to me like tim needs to get a batch of manifolds ready.

If that weld doesn't hold up, I'll have OTS fab me a manifold. Too complex to have a custom job done overseas.

BTW, I touched an Coswort Inconel manifold today, kinda sexy and very light.

They backed off later yesterday after I e-mailed my CRHA number. They said it wouldn't work. I've e-mail them back on the GT25 housing TiAL advertises as well as e-mail TiAL self about it. Awaiting replies from both parties.

Meanwhile...
