I have a 2000 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - Washington.

Mileage: ~165,000 miles
Engine Size: 1.8L


Asking price is $5500



When I got this car it was bone stock, 140,000 miles, body now has ~165k on it. I had intended to do all sorts of crazy stuff to it, and turbocharge it, big horsepower, etc. Then, as it so frequently does, life got in the way of my toy plans. I recently bought a house and work two jobs, so my time/energy to finish the project is seriously lacking. I am hoping someone can get this car and finish the project that I started.

Built engine, less than 5000 miles:

Forged Eagle H-Beam connecting rods
CP Forged Aluminum pistons
OEM 3-layer steel head gasket
ARP Head studs
TOMEI Pon-cam street camshafts (w/ solid lightweight lifters)
Ported head
Fancy JDM Mazdaspeed blue anodized oil filler cap
New NGK plugs/wires with 0 miles on them
new EGR valve with less than ~500 miles on it
Two brand new O2 sensors with ~100 miles on them
Oil pan tapped on driver's side with capped -4 bulkhead fitting for turbocharger oil drain.

Suspension/Tires:

Generic Cusco-style front strut bar
JIC FLT-A2 adjustable coilovers
Dunlop Direzza DZ-101 tires, 205/50/15, less than 500 miles on them, almost new.

Interior:

Alpine CDA-105 (iPod/iPhone/USB support ran to center console)
Alpine V-Power amp in trunk
Alpine Type-S Component speakers in doors
Updated 2001+ black center console
2001+ white-face gauge cluster (swapped odometer, mileage is accurate)

This car came to me with an entirely tan interior. I have been slowly swapping out interior pieces over the last couple years and the swap is nearly complete. I have replaced the dashboard, the center console, most of the interior plastics, and very recently I got black carpeting from a 05 Mazdaspeed Miata with only 30k miles on it. Interior is a little dusty, but is in otherwise good shape. The pieces that are missing are the carpet piece behind the seats that sits on the rear wall (not the parcel shelf, that carpet is there), and then you'd need black seats and door panels. Then you'd be all done and ditched the hideous tan interior. There are also some small holes in the gauge-hood from where I had some gauges mounted. That piece is easy to replace.

Sounds pretty great right? In full transparency, here's the bad news:

CEL. Car throws a check engine light for "Catalyst efficiency out of range" which means the catalytic converter isn't working, and prevents it from being smogged. That might sound scary, but I can tell you right now that the reason it's doing that is because the car has no catalytic converter on it. When I bought it the previous owner had taken the exhaust off and jammed a stick through the cat to "get some more horsepower" and since he lived in a place that didn't have emission testing, it didn't matter. The good news is that you could take this thing to an exhaust shop and have them weld you in a new cat for reasonably cheap and it probably won't be an issue

The body; The paint is in good shape, has a layer of dust on it from sitting in my garage for a while. The front lip is cracked on the passenger's side, and there is a small dent in the front bumper from where a guy an an Evo backed into me when we were sitting at a stop sign. New bumper skin and paint might run you $500, or you could ignore it, as I have done for the last couple years. It honestly doesn't even look that bad. The only other real body issue is a 18" long scratch near the driver's door on the top of the rear fender. Don't know what happened here, came out from work one day and it was there. I assume someone with rivets on their jeans or a tough purse scratched it. Scratch could easily be buffed out, no paint damage, just clear coat.

The alignment: When I got new tires (the ones that are on there) the guys at Goodyear threw in a free alignment, cool right? Turns out it wasn't very cool at all. I took in a car with bad tires and a good alignment and got back a car that pulls to one side under acceleration. It doesn't make it undrivable at all, just something that bugs me.

Honestly, you could buy this car for my asking price and part it out for more than I'm selling it for. I just don't have the time to do anything to it anymore and it's a waste sitting in my garage. Also, in the pictures the driver's seat is missing, it's here, I just hadn't installed it since I finished putting the carpet in.
