Default 1994 Mazda Miata - $$2,000

Category: Import
Status: Clean Title

I have a 1994 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - Alabama.

Mileage: ~225,000 miles
Engine Size: 1.8

Asking price is $$2,000

I'm sure most of you guys know the basics of the car. Started life as an r-package. Engine fully rebuilt 100-120k miles ago (no speedo for most of that time) transmission is pretty much toast. Works, and smoothly actually, but it is very noisy. Chassis is in pretty good shape, no rust that I have ever noticed. There is the dent in the driver side rear quarter and a small dent on the hood, but otherwise, a straight body. Top is pretty ratty, but no rips or tears. The seals around the front corner where the windshield surround and side window meets does leak in heavy rain (wet leg).

Runs (ran) pretty well aside from the loud transmission. A little bit of a drip from the front main seal, but otherwise no external leaks. Plenty of little bolt-ons that are easily worth the asking price in the used market. I just lack the time and drive to part it out myself. I'd rather just be rid of it this way. The main reason I'm selling it is because last week I had some electrical issues that finally made me park it. A few weeks ago I had both low beams blow out while driving home, so I assumed it was a voltage spike from a loose ground or the ebay high output alternator already giving me problems. I drove it only in the day since then, but then last week I was again driving and had the engine completely die, all power just vanished for about 2 or 3 seconds. Then the windshield wipers came on out of nowhere, and then the power came back, and the car kept on driving as normal... So there is definitely something wrong somewhere. Probably not major, but more than I care to deal with. I have another car to drive, and I don't have the time or money to spend on this thing. I've reached that limit of spending where I feel like I've already spent several times the value of the car on parts and maintenance and it's just not worth continuing.

So in short, it will need to be picked up, trailered away, or a roll back.

Again, the parts on the car are worth more than the rolling chassis itself. Enkei RPF1 wheels, full RB exhaust header, mid pipe and rear section, suspension parts, a few interior pieces like the Nardi wheel and Katzkin leather seats.

If not $2,000, make me an offer. Also, stock hollow spoke wheels included. Yes, they are actually hollow spokes.

Here are some pictures of how she sits now in the driveway, in need of a cleaning.

As of a year ago, when I was still keeping it clean.

Yeah. It's still a pretty awesome car. I've just ran out of ***** to give for this thing. Trying to start and run my own business, and having a comfy, reliable, good a/c daily driver now, this thing holds my interest about as well as doo-wop music. Like I think I may have already said, it's likely either the ebay alternator, bad ground or a bare wire somewhere shorting out. I had a similar issue a year or two ago, and it ended up just being a loose ground close to the battery. I checked that one again and it looked fine. I don't think a battery could cause this kind of issue through internal grounding? It's a WestCo, about 6 years old. After the car lost power, acted crazy, then drove me home problem free after that, the next morning I went to start it and it was completely dead. I left it sitting there and haven't looked at it since.

Get it running again, and it's only a new transmission, a hardtop and rebuilding the Bilsteins away from an awesome daily. Maybe put the head unit back in...

Oh yeah, hollow spoke stockers included. I have no use for them. They have some kind of Sumitomo garbage tires on them, one of which is swollen like a dead deer with wires exposed and part of the tread hanging off. One too many potholes, I guess the cords broke.

I'm more certain of the issue being a bad alternator now. Pretty sure it's a failed diode/rectifier. I do recall hearing a whine/hiss noise through my electronics before the power loss occurred. I finally got around to looking at it finally and found the 80A main fuse blown. I'm guessing the car will continue running even with a blown main fuse? Apparently so, as I drove it home with all lights and gauges dead, and no accessories. Shut it off, went inside, came back out and attempted to crank it and nothing. Either that or if found a way to blow with the key in the off position sitting in the driveway.
