Default 1996 Mazda Miata - $5000

Category: Import
Status: Clean Title

I have a 1996 Mazda Miata for sale, in USA - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Asking price is $5000 OBO

1996 Miata for sale, approx 205k miles on the frame, did an engine swap at 179k, 2000 motor had 27k at time of swap (rebuilt the motor at time of swap), 2transmissions had 16k at time of swap.
Registered as a classic in PA, which means no emissions inspections, but only drive-able 1 day out of the week (if you keep it as a classic in PA).

Except for the alignment, I did all the work myself

Motor is a from a 2000
MSM 6-speed transmission
fidanza 1.6 flywheel
exedy 1.6 stage 3+ full faced cerametallic clutch

2.5in high flow cat
roadster sport 2.5 inch exhaust

stock rear sway
949 endlinks

e-code headlights
momo steering wheel
nrg quick release with locking hub
sparco sprint 5 seat with seat rails
5 point camlock harness (installed correctly!)
949 racing 15x9's
hankook rs3 225/45/15 (more than half tread remaining)
replaced all bearings about 2 years ago
rebuilt all calipers about 2 years ago
replaced brake master cylinder 2 years ago
carbotech 1521's front and rear
stainless steel braided brake lines
stainless steel braided clutch line
gutted interior/sound deadening
alignment is 1.9 rear, 1.4 front, zero toe, and 5 caster

Spare parts:
4 black BBS wheels with tires (came with car originally)
3 gen 1 949 racing 15x8 (4th wheel is in pieces)
megasquirt with harness (never got around to installing it)
whalbro fuel pump

I no longer get to drive it since I take the train to and from work every day now, and I don't want to just see it sitting there not being used. Also I'm moving in a few months into the city, and I don't want to pay $200/month for a parking spot for a car I don't drive.

Just curious, is asking for $5k crazy? Am I way out of the ballpark on that?

doesnt it require 20 years for the car to be considered classic / historic? or are those two different things?

Pennsylvania is 15 years for classic, 25 for antique.

can only be driven 1 day a week (if they catch you)

has to pass safety once a year for classic, does not have to pass emissions.

antique doesn't have to pass anything.

registration is a 1 time deal and is permanent

Washing/cleaning the car before taking pictures can go a long way towards making it more presentable and attractive. You've got a lot of good parts on a high mileage, Northern car that is going to appeal to a relatively small niche of people since it's all stripped out.

If you have done reasonable advertising in multiple formats and gotten zero interest... Your price may be too high.

Stock for a '96, so 4.1 and open. Fluid is Redline MT90.

Transmissions is a MSM 6-Speed with GM Syncromesh (only stuff that doesn't grind)

So with that diff and that transmission, the car is geared rather short.

Price sounds reasonable for a car that just needs a diff, I'd part out the spare parts/wheels and drop the price a bit and you'd still ccome out better IMO.

would you have any hesitation to driving this car to say, michigan?

is there anything that needs to be done to it?

If you're entertaining offers, what are you looking to get minus the spare wheels, (bbs and the 6uls)?

I've done that drive before! my grandmother (before she passed) live in Jackson, Michigan.

I would do it, but its going to be very annoying as the car is very loud at 80mph+ (bring some IEM headphones), and lacks cruise control. I would also take a jug of coolant (a cracked hose led to this whole engine swap), and slime and an air compressor, since this car lacks a spare tire.

a few odds and ends, and desperately needs to be cleaned. The horn doesn't work (going to fix it this week sometime), the center tail light doesn't work (need to reconnect cable, also this week), and i don't think the cigarette lighter works (not sure, but my charger stopped working in it), and some ------- cracked my right tail light on the bottom, so i'll have to look into getting that replaced.

$4k?
