Default The jobs Americans won't do.

There are some very interesting numbers coming out of Alabama since their passing landmark immigration reform in June. How about decreasing unemployment and increasing passport applications? Yes, Mexican nationals are overwhelming passport offices to secure passage for themselves and their “anchor” children BACK to Mexico.

While radical leftist groups have joined with the Obama Administration Justice Department to assail Alabama for doing locally the job the Feds refuse to do, common sense law and order types now have numbers to show who is right.

Teresa Ferguson is a Mama Grizzly who had never been involved in politics until she singularly took on the challenge of ending the devastating effects of illegal immigration in her community. After getting hit and run by an illegal in a town in which the majority of kindergarteners are children of illegals and brothels and methamphetamine are rampant, she decided to take action. She began by reaching out to candidates for statewide office, insisting they visit her county to see the damage first hand.

One candidate for governor actually took an entire day out of his schedule to visit Marshall County. Alabamians now call the responsive candidate Governor Bentley. He signed the legislation in June. Another lawmaker who visited with Mrs. Ferguson, State Senator Scott Beason called on Alabamians to get serious and “empty the clip” on the issue. He joined State Representative Micky Hammon in passing HB56, the most comprehensive, common sense illegal immigration law in the country. The law, despite being enjoined by the courts, has nevertheless produced amazing results yet to be reported anywhere.

One highlight is a provision that empowers any citizen to sue law enforcement for not carrying out the provisions of the act. No sanctuary for any public servant inclined to selectively enforce the law. Genius!

Mrs. Ferguson reports that the local passport office that processed 139 passports in June of 2010, processed a stunning 469 in 2011; an increase of almost 300%. Knowing the laws are tightening, illegal residents are taking steps to assure the successful return of their “anchor” children as they slip back across the border.

The other stunning statistic is that Marshall County, home to many chicken processing plants, has experienced a decrease in unemployment while neighboring counties see increases. Marshall County unemployment dropped almost a percentage point from 10% to 9.1% and neighboring DeKalb increased to 13%. Mrs. Ferguson explains, “The chicken plants are starting to hire local people”.

So we see that sensible laws yield predictable results. When public servants deliver the message that laws will be enforced, people cease to flaunt them. When chicken plant operators lose illegal workers, they hire Americans again and one county experienced a 10% decline in unemployment. Imagine that.

Guess we can't keep using that myth as an exmaple anymore ...

There must be a way to enforce immigration laws without affecting the brothels

Problem is, companies will now have to replace their reasonably priced high quality workers with alcoholics and thugs. Ask me how I know.

In these tough times, let's make our country less competitive than it already is. Be careful what you wish for.

Can someone explain to me what is going on with the passport angle? Illegal immigrants are getting themselves passports to travel back to their homelands? Or they are getting passports for their American-born children so that the kids can travel to the parents' country of origin?

Also, there seems to be at least two gaping holes in the story regarding the unemployment numbers.

they are getting passports for the legal anchor babies so they can travel to Mexico legally while the illegal parents sneak back through the border.

Ahhh, I get it. The American Citizen children get to ride in air conditioning across the border with somebody who is legal, and the parents move across the desert.

Good for Alabama... is it me, or am I actually starting to see a bit of change in this country?

There are actually mathematical models of population dynamics based on consumption dependence.

That is simply all that is happening here. When the wallets are no longer flying open you see less Mexicans standing on the corner in downtown Conroe, TX. Immigrants assess opportunity here vs. the things they value back home (these folks did leave behind families, houses, hometowns, communities, and even jobs).

Geeze. That sounds complicated. Is there a shuttle service with legal citizens/travellers that are ferrying the babies to the parents' countries of origin? Is that a business opportunity for the guys in TX or are the "coyotes" just adding this to their list of services ("we'll drag you through the desert and shuttle your kids over the highway for one low, low package price!")?

Also:
  1. Where can we find the stats for the employment picture in Marshall and DeKalb?
  2. Does this "grizzly mama" run an agricultural farm or business?

Just for the record, you can board an international flight without documents that establish you as a legal resident in this country. In the other hand, is not so quite easy to get back in without the same. I believe the passport for the children is so that they could travel back to the states and for identification purposes and what not.

Alabama state employment stats, by county

Marshall County employed 116 fewer people in July 2011 than in June 2011, but 412 more than in July 2010.

DeKalb employed 182 more people in July 2011 than in June 2011, but 621 fewer than in July 2010.

To say that Marshall saw a "decrease in unemployment" is sloppy reporting at best.

Couldn't find any stats to document that chicken farms have increased hiring of legal citizens.

in marshall, it appears unemployment dropped from 10% to 9.1%. Apparently, that's where these chicken plants are.

in deklab, there are no such, so unemployment has gone from 12.9% to 13% more or less hasn't changed.

but i agree, the raw numbers don't add up, im not sure how the state is calculating the unemployment rates. but it appears that is what this chick was going by, which is bad considering most of the state's counties has seen a drop over the last month. But on quick glance, I've yet to spot one county that has increased employement in raw figures...

Marshall
July 2011: 3775 unemployed / 41446 labor force = 9.11% unemployment rate.
June 2011: 4181 unemployed / 41968 labor force = 9.96% unemployment rate.

About 4yrs ago, there was a raid at a Del Monte canning plant here in Portland (we were a gateway state for illegals at the time, FYI).

Yes, the raids on illegal workers (facilitated by a staffing agency) was "inhumane"

I was in the volume staffing business in the area at the time. Del Monte filled every single position with a US worker within 36hrs.

The "jobs" Americans don't want might be out there, but illegals quickly move from those jobs to others that Americans do want; framing, drywall, construction, landscaping, etc.
