A Keller police officer who was fired for several policy violations has also been let go from another law enforcement agency in Texas and is under investigation for excessive use of force, the Victoria Advocate reported.

Officer Daniel Bettes was the subject of many complaints during his seven-year tenure at the Keller Police Department until he was fired Sept. 10, 2007.

In January 2009, Bettes was hired by the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office as a deputy, and, according to reports by the Victoria Advocate newspaper, he was fired in November 2014 after he reportedly violated office policies when he used a Taser on a truck driver twice during a traffic stop in October.

Zambia's top prosecutor on Friday stunned a magistrate when he refused to prosecute himself on charges of abuse of office and declared himself a free man.

"I am the director of public prosecution of the republic of Zambia and I have decided to enter a nolle prosequi against all the charges," Mutembo Nchito told the magistrate from the dock, using the Latin term for refusing to pursue a case.

Magistrate Lameck Mwale will rule on March 2 on whether Nchito can prosecute himself or not.

SAN DIEGO — A federal lawsuit over a gun part dealer’s free speech rights on the Sheriff’s Department’s Facebook page has settled — for a mere $20 and attorney’s fees.

Dimitri Karras, owner of Ares Armor in Oceanside, sued San Diego County in October after sheriff’s officials deleted his combative comments and then banned him from posting anything further.

Karras claimed it was a violation of his First Amendment rights because the Facebook page was run by a government entity and therefore a public forum for all taxpayers. The county argued that commenters must follow rules — such as staying respectful and on topic — to post to the site, and that Karras’s posts were neither.

In late October 2014 a 16-year-old boy called SOS alarm in Sweden. He and his friend were shot. The operator did not believe him.

A Florida police dog is being kicked off the force after biting a doughnut shop worker and an officer in separate incidents.

Officials say 4-year-old Renzo had been with the Coconut Creek Police Department for more than a year. The Belgian Malinois bit an officer in November while tracking a suspect. Last week, he burst out of a patrol car and bit a Dunkin' Donuts worker in the calf.

Senate Bill No. 331 reads, “Any recording captured by a camera, which is capable of recording video or audio…shall not be a public record… [and] shall not be disclosed by a law enforcement agency except upon order of a court in the course of a criminal investigation or prosecution or civil litigation.” Footage captured on any police camera attached to a piece of police equipment, car, aircraft, or police person, would therefore be protected by this bill.
