because your right to life is the highest of all rights and your govt's job is protect it.

a volunteer army is the best army. if you can't get even people to serve, then your cause is probably shitty anyways. And this would also force congress to actually wage our wars, and then they could use their constitutional powers to raise an army. And raising an army doesnt mean forcing people to serve, just that they can raise one.

im not fighting some dick hole presidents wars for him, sorry. but if the cause is right, id sign up and blast ************* if need be.

The government's job is to protect you.

Spoken like a true liberal.

I'm not even joking. If there was a sadface smiley, I'd put it here.

you rights

but yes, as a liberal, you must know I subscribe to the doctrine: ask not what you can do for your country, ask what your country can do for you.

Got a question here.. why do the republicans care so much about what a woman does when shes pregnant and why are republican pro choice when they could care less about what happens to the child after its born? Why is it that most republicans are against programs for kids?

Serious question.

Speaking as someone who, in past elections, has identified as a republican:

I genuinely don't give a **** about what a woman does when she's pregnant.

You can smoke pot while having an abortion just prior to marrying your same-sex partner and adopting a whole herd of mixed-race children, provided that you can afford to do all of the above for yourself without dipping into my wallet to fund it.

The idea that all republicans are anti-woman, anti-gay, and anti-(everything not in the bible) is an annoying example of the majority being defined by the extreme.

Well, would you find it inconsistent for a person to be both against murder and against welfare programs?

Because that's the essence of those positions, for most (or, at least, a lot of) Republicans. You can, of course, disagree with either or both of those individual positions (whether abortion is murder, and whether welfare is morally wrong or practically ineffective), but if those are the presuppositions, then I'm not sure how those two positions are inconsistent with each other.

yeah i think you should phrase the question:

why do republicans (mostly the christian ones) disagree with killing fetuses? and why do they not want to spend their own tax dollars on someone elses kid whom they cannot support?

Abortion is a red herring issue used by political hacks to keep certain members of the base on both sides from paying attention to more important issues. Keep your eyes on the ball. We've got a government to run.

In other news, the Russians have successfully hacked the DNC computers to specifically see what dirt they have on Trump.

In other news, Julian Assange over at Wikileaks has obtained Hillary's deleted emails and plans to release some of them soon. He claims there's easily enough evidence of wrongdoing to indict her.

Best is that they pissed at the hackers for exposing their crooked ways.

When volunteering to serve your country in the military, you are not joining to fight for any cause other than to serve and protect your country and way of life. I did not join the Army to go fight in the sand box, but thats what ended up happening, did I approve of the reasons we were over there? Absolutely not, however thats the boat our country was/ is in so I fought that battle because it needed to be fought. Thats the thing about being in the military, is you don't choose your battles, they're chosen for you

I agree 100% and I am glad that I spent a period of my time in the service but at the same time, knowing the situations my "boss" would put me in leads me to believe that voluntary enlistment is not something I would do right now. If we faced an existential threat or if I trusted my life would be "spent" on a worthwhile cause I would be open to enlisting again. Maybe as I get older I get more cynical which is why the military is for the most part younger people. Right now and for a long time, I feel that our military is spending very little time doing things that "serve and protect country and way of life." Maybe it's a perception thing and it needs to be marketed better, but that's not the feeling I get.

I believe that we have a responsibility to defend our country and answer the call, and in an ACTUAL threat situation anyone who would resist serving in whatever capacity they could best serve is an *******.

If we were fighting to protect "our way of life" that would be another story. You're not doing that.

That's the wrong question to ask.

The real question is: why are both the republican and democratic parties so eager to politicize wedge issues over which the executive branch welds no direct authority, and which are of relatively little importance to the security of the nation.

Present tense?

I'd go fight ISIS ********* because they threaten "our way of life", absolutely.

I'd argue that ISIS can be fought with not just bullets and bombs, but ideas. I know that is an awfully squishy solution, but it is my opinion that teaming up with moderate muslims who are actively trying to bring about a reformation of sorts is a better long term solution than shooting them. After all, it's hard to kill an idea with a compelling narrative.

And, doing this does not require you go overseas, it just requires you to try and understand the issue and support those who are trying to fix the problem from the inside.
