/\ It is what it is. This is why the bouncers or bartenders should have had weapons of their own.

Police Chief John Mina said the tragedy began at 2:02 a.m., when three police officers engaged the suspect in a gun battle outside the club. A hostage situation then took place inside, and a SWAT team was called in, Mina said. Police received updates from patrons trapped in the club, and decided to storm the club at about 5 a.m.

No, not outside, after most of the people were shot. If I understand the true scenario correctly: shooting of innocents, followed by an outside "engagement", followed by a hostage situation, followed by a SWAT rescue.

What would arming bouncers/bartenders specifically do? Beyond an increase in deaths surrounding steroids and rage.

More bullets in the air, dawg!

But in all seriousness... Just as the answer to bad speech has always been more speech, the answer to gun violence is, quite simply, more guns. This should be intuitively obvious.

Arming yourself makes sense, relying on untrained idiots who failed out of HS does not.

You're right. Arming several hundred drunk / high people in a nightclub is probably the best idea.

In all seriousness, though. There's been a lot of discussion today about the religious beliefs of the killer. People are saying things like "We just spent a week honoring a man, well known to us, who was inspired by Islam to spread peace & justice to every corner of this world, touching millions of lives in a beautiful way. I, and Muslims across this country, refuse to be involuntarily represented by some demented murderer unknown to us who ruthlessly took the lives of tens of people in Orlando today."

Funny how nopony ever brings up atheism in the context of affixing blame for hate-crimes.

Hmmm... gay people can't go out and have a good time without getting wasted and doing drugs... you said it. It's illegal to carry and consume alcohol in every state under all circumstances. Of the several states that do allow "bar carry", it's still illegal for a person carrying to consume. Considering that it's a well-known statistic that those with concealed carry licenses, as a group, are one of the most law-abiding classes of people there are, it seems to me that allowing "law-abiding-sober-permit-having-gay-people" to carry in a club can only be a good thing for collective self-defense. The classic argument that liberals and anti-gun cops make... "good guys won't be able to tell each-other apart" is complete horseshit and has been proven false in almost every real-world example where it's happened. Ie, where multiple good-guys who did not know eachother prior to a random incident didn't shoot eachother when simultaneously engaging a bad guy.

This is the same argument that military leadership is currently using to keep us disarmed on bases. I have Wings of Gold, a TSCI clearance, hundreds of hours of rules-of-engagement/anti-terrorism/force-protection training, and thousands of rounds of practice and scenario firearms training... and somehow, the brass still considers me unable to make a critical real-time decision during an activer-shooter scenario to know who the bad guy is (hint, the one walking around shooting people) and what to do when uniformed cops arrive (ie, put my gun down and do what they say).

All the people pushing this bullshit "lets all just be friends" line are Liberals. I'll just go on record and say I've never met a practicing Muslim who was right of center. Liberal politicians need the soundbyte-inspired masses to focus on quotes like that so they can continue to claim that Republicans hate minorities... the poorer and less educated the masses are, the easier it is for Liberal politicians to lie to them to get them fired up. **** like that, when people read it on Facebook, only hear "Trump is evil" because HE hates all Muslims and only some of them are bad... but most of them are good, like that black boxer guy with Michael J. Fox disease. Muslims only turn bad when somebody gives them a gun. You ******* know that's what millions of young adults with college degrees who work at Starbucks actually truly think is true.

That quote sounded to me like it happened before anyone was shot inside the club. It is not 100% clear though and we will know more later obviously.

At no point in his post did he mention gays.

Also, I'm pretty sure I've been in a few bars/clubs that were not gay only? Maybe I was imaging things though.

"Almost every" doesn't help when you get shot in the head by a "good guy with a gun": Texas ?good guy with a gun? shoots carjacking victim in head ? then runs away

Because a ban would have prevented a guy born in New York from going on a shooting rampage.
