Default Hussein, Berkshire Hathoway, Keystone Pipeline

Is it purely coincidence that Warren Buffet's company transports 75% of North Dakota oil, he believes America should create more tax revenue from income tax, and that an inflexible deadline precluded the implementation of the Keystone Pipeline? This is all purely coincidence, right?

So, Republicans set an arbitrary and inflexible deadline....

Obama can't review in time...

Obama gets blamed? Is this bizarro world? Do you want the President to sign stuff without even knowing what it does or says like, well, Congress?

1 month is more time than that horrendous bill was ever considered...he could possible postpone 1 golf outing and read it...didnt FDR read like 15 books a day?

I'm not sure who set the deadline, but in my brief decade in the federal government I've learned that there is never, ever a hard deadline on anything aside from judicial matters.

The Republicans have been promoting "their" deadline for a bit, Hustly. They were proud of forcing Obama to make a decision in time, not realizing their deadline was incredibly unrealistic and arbitrary (My cynical side wants to say that they DID realize this, but YMMV).

P.S. The pipeline isn't nixed, it's still a possibility. It just had to be temporarily shelved while people pull their heads out of their asses and try to set slightly more realistic expectations.

Except that even the enviro groups support the pipeline.

Wayde Schafer, a North Dakota spokesman for the Sierra Club, said Obama's decision was appropriate though oil that would have moved on the pipeline will be transported by environmentally riskier rail or trucks

"There is no question that oil by rail or truck is much more dangerous than a pipeline, but then again, you have to have adequate time and you have to site a pipeline appropriately or you're just asking for trouble," Schafer said.

Hardly, it depends on which one you ask. Some believe the pipeline is dirtier than trains, others disagree, and the third want to live off the grid. Good luck finding any consistency among enviro-****.

I also don't understand where environmental yes/no is dictated in the Federal capacity, because traditionally NEPA only requires consideration of environmental threats or harzards rather than making the decision on behalf of states and local governments. I assume this is different and Federal agencies get to make the call.

Okay. The non-insane and mainstream enviro groups. Or do I get to brand the KKK, Birthers, and similar groups as major parts of the Republican party?

No, you can't. The KKK has a long history with the Demoncratic party.

Not much of a stretch to see the pipeline was shelved by O so Buffet can see massive profits. Buffet was, after all, a campaign contributor.

You can brand them anything you like, it is your First Amendment right. On the other hand, who do you think will listen?

No, this is incorrect. The KKK has a long history with the Democratic party, prior to the Democratic and Republican party's swap (Yes, I am serious, go research this for yourself.) Lincoln's Republican party turned Democrat and vice versa. It started in approximately the late 1910s to 1920s, and accelerated untill the late 40s to early 50s at which point the parties had both done a complete 180. By about 1970 to 1980, every single position each party held a century ago were literally reversed. Even figures who were instrumental in certain actions taken by one party had switched parties - which is, perhaps, ironic considering the Democrats sordid past in the 1800s and at the start of the 1900s and how the Republicans loved to call them on it. Entertainingly, some still do while trying to ignore the Republicans much more recent dirty laundry and less-than-tasteful connections.

The KKK, in the 1920s and 1930s, had extensive ties to the Republican party and had virtually cut off all ties to the Democrat party. It still retains a connection to the Republican party much as the "off the grid" environmentalists have a connection to the Democratic party - actually, a slightly closer connection, but that's neither here nor there (When was the last time you heard of an off the grid environutjob running for a Democrat position? I can name several KKK members who ran for Republican office in the past decade or two.) Oh dear, oh me, oh my. Nice try though - it may have worked on a lesser educated forum.

So, you are accusing Obama of the same things Bush and demonstrably every president in the past ~20 years have done? You are saying I can search your political posts from '06-'08, and hear you rant about how Bush did this with Halliburton and other companies (And far, FAR more blatantly at that!)? Or does this stem from the ridiculous notion that because Obama has a D next to his name, he is TEH ANTICHRIST? Considering you tried to characterize an entire political party as "Demoncrats", I think it's fairly obvious where you stand.

Evidently, the same people that will listen to people claiming that "Environmentalists that want off the grid" are a part of the serious political parties. Trying to brush an entire political party with the extreme nutjobs from either is stupidity Olderguy, and you know this as well as I do.

If you feed into the "X good, Y baaaahhhddd" because of a letter next to their name, and believe what is said by the extreme nutjobs in Y's party, well, I have to use a very cheap shot here. You deserve the government you get. A letter doesn't mean anything. Look at Ron Paul.

LOL at anybody who sees more than 2mm of difference among anybody in office in DC. They all talk a good game but don't give a rat's *** about any of us.

What one side doesn't seem to realize is that if the pipeline is approved, a new 3,000-head agency can be created to oversee its construction and operation! Kind of like CFPR - the new director has announced his priority of investigating lending practices and preventing predatory and bogus-info mortgage loans. Unfortunately, due to 3-year-old HUD regulations, nobody can write those loans now anyway. So we have a new agency with hundreds(or more) drones at the gov't trough, to solve a previously-fixed problem.

Also, any sense of irony about this site debating a petroleum-carrying system? If you're so damned concerned, why not just get a Prius and move to Jerome. I'm told their drum circles are excellent.

^This. Tenthousandfold, ^This.

I'm getting a little bit tired of being accused of being a Democrat because I think both parties suck and spend a good deal of time trying to correct....shall we say, misapprehensions on what people think is political fact.

In 1946 or 1947, Byrd wrote a letter to a Grand Wizard stating, "The Klan is needed today as never before, and I am anxious to see its rebirth here in West Virginia and in every state in the nation."[19] However, when running for the United States House of Representatives in 1952, he announced "After about a year, I became disinterested, quit paying my dues, and dropped my membership in the organization. During the nine years that have followed, I have never been interested in the Klan." He said he had joined the Klan because he felt it offered excitement and was anti-communist.[9]

In 1997, Byrd told an interviewer he would encourage young people to become involved in politics but also: "Be sure you avoid the Ku Klux Klan. Don't get that albatross around your neck. Once you've made that mistake, you inhibit your operations in the political arena."[20] In his last autobiography, Byrd explained that he was a KKK member because he "was sorely afflicted with tunnel vision —a jejune and immature outlook—seeing only what I wanted to see because I thought the Klan could provide an outlet for my talents and ambitions."[21] Byrd also said, in 2005, "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times ... and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened."[9]
