I heard a member of parliament say something along the lines of, "What army? Whatever army we have is overseas and the ones coming home are being disbanded."

I do wonder what this would look like in a state with liberal gun control and strong rights of self defense (e.g. "castle doctrines"), assuming the riots moved outside of the "ghetto" (i.e. looters trying to burn down and sack stores outside of their own neighborhood).

Agree with some of this guy points, but at the same point he is playing the younger generation is going to ruin everything card. Which hasn't happened yet.

There are many reasons for the riots... one single thing can't be singled out. At least you can say there are better reasons for this than just losing the Stanley Cup.. looking at you Vancouver.

It's simple really.

They just have to hire the thugs to be the cops.

After all it worked wonders in A Clockwork Orange...

I agree with a lot of this article.
Now that we are in this situation, I firmly believe that the only way out is to give the teachers and police authority to discipline anyone who is being a nuisance.
In the old days, unruly kids would get the cane at school or a thick ear by the local copper then frog marched home to explain what they had done to their parents. More often than not it would result in an extra clip round the ear from them.

Amazingly, police are catching a hell of a lot of the looters, so much so that the courts are going 24/7 to process them all. Included was a primary school teacher, why ? He has a job for ***** sake.

"The government hasn't done anything to help us" is one of the lamest excuses bandied around by looters. Millions have been sunk into restoring local communities with new libraries, new sports centres, new community centres, there's further education (most of which is free to the unemployed) there are apprentice schemes, there's help groups for getting into employment or training schemes, help groups for getting out of the gang culture, help for getting social benefits..... in other words the help they really want is for the government to give them the latest flat screen TV, latest Nike trainers, latest iPhone or Blackberry, latest game station and games...... ******* lazy morons.

I can remember that they caught a million dollar lottery winner stealing a vacuum cleaner during the Rodney King riots. Some people are just trash...

If you found the movie interesting, read the book. More detail, insights, and character development. It comes with a nadsat dictionary btw.

You mean they don't do that in the UK?

I'm only partly kidding.

Here in the states, one of the many assistance programs gives anyone under a certain income level a free cell phone with 250 minutes a month. What's worse is that the government isn't even contracting directly with the network carriers; they're paying out to third-party service providers (the same ones who sell cheap prepaid phones at petrol stations and discount stores) who are, in turn, taking a cut of the money and charging the people getting the free phones exorbitant rates for "additional" services such as text messaging, ringtones, games, information services, etc. Why not? They've already got a captive (and fiscally irresponsible) userbase.

Here's my question: Who forgot to tell the criminals that guns were the cause of criminality?

Follow up: Will they outlaw baseball bats next?

I didn't realize the British and American news are referring to anyone who protects themselves or their estate "vigilantes". Wow, what a miserable shithole of a culture.
