I am also the 1%. I swept up popcorn and mopped up coca cola spills at a movie theater. I was only worth what they were paying me and I was glad to have the opportunity.
Stay in school, kids. Or screw off and have a big time and have nothing to show for yourself. Then you can blame the man for not paying you more than you are worth.

Yeah, the boss got rich for being stupid, lazy, and never risking everything he owns. How can you tune into the last lap of a race on TV and say "Why does that guy get to be out front and some of the others are a lap down or out of the race entirely? " The answer is you are a fuckiing idiot. Some have prepared better, some are smarter, some have tried a risky strategy that paid off, some have tried a risky strategy that didn't pay off, some chose to knock off early from work instead of working late, some said "That's good enough", some chose to focus their budget on better parts, some chose to spend their budget on comfort items and bling, some have better endurance, some had bad luck, some made bad choices. But how do you really know whether the winner deserves the win if all you see is the last lap and have no idea what preparation, sacrifice, and anguish they endured to get there?

The Chinese government executes the mentally ill. And they don't care for the terminally ill.

Any employee can get paid what he believe his work is worth...under two conditions.

First: the employee has to convince his employer that his work is worth what he thinks it is worth.

Second: the employee must convince his employer that a second employer is willing to pay him what he thinks his work is worth.

If, when notifying the employer that a second employer thinks you are worth more money, your current employer fires you, then you obviously weren't worth that amount of money to your first employer. Guess you can go get a job at your second employer!!! You did have a second employer lined up, right? Or are you really that ******* stupid?

Ways to convince your employer you are worth more:
Get a diploma which shows you can finish something
Get a degree which shows you can finish something that you had to work for
Show your employer that you are willing to do work
Show your employer that you are willing to do hard work
Show your employer that you are willing to put yourself second to your work
Show your employer that you are willing to do hard selfless work consistently
Show your employer that you have good decision making skills
Show your employer that you can get to work on time every day
Show your employer that you can work well with other employees
Show your employer that you can lead other employees well and with humility
Show these things to a second prospective employer
Stay out of legal trouble
Be willing to work nights/mornings/evenings/weekends/holidays
Present an appearance which creates a positive image for your employer
Don't Smoke
Don't do drugs
Learn English
No, really, learn real ******* English.
Turn your phone off when you're at work.
Become friends with your bosses boss.
...
...
...

Consider this: If you were running a business and you needed an employee, what would the perfect employee look like? You need to be that perfect employee.

Ways to not earn more money:
Do things that people earning minimum wage do.
Do things that people who "can't hold a job" do.
Be pond scum.
Go on strike complaining about how you don't make enough money.

Also ban unpaid internships.

Fact: Before the welfare program was enacted, everyone was dead.

Or do you think they would just sit back and starve to death? Maybe the employers would just let their whole workforce starve to death so now there is no one available to run their factories or buy their goods/services. That is totally how it would play out.

It is easy to keep people poor and ignorant if you keep them content and comfortable enough that they do not fight for more.
I agree with this. Raising the min wage won't solve the fundamental problems of our country, but I think it is at least a step in the right direction compared to the "solutions" that have been mentioned thus far (die faster poors).

My job is hiring for the 9th time this year. Each time it's 20-40 people. Entry level. You need a high school diploma or GED. That's it. $13/hr, incredible benefits, full time + overtime. Lots of upward mobility within the company.

Basically, if you're not an eggplant, you can get a job here.

If you were too stupid to get a diploma or GED, then i have no sympathy for you. You deserve to starve and be pissed on.
What state do you live in?

Maybe you linked the wrong images? The first one is horribly out of date and I'm not even sure the point behind it. The 2nd one is also out of date, but at least if you find the modern version you'll see that older and older people are taking more min wage jobs.

The last graph proves my point perfectly? States with higher than Federal min wage have less workers who make min wage than states that use the Federal min as standard.

So why did you post it? To prove me right? Those states in blue also, by large, have lower unemployment, better economies, and wealthier citizens than the ones in grey.

And you got your education all by yourself, not a single government subsidy when into it, and you never benefited from living in a time when the minimum wage was high enough to live and go to school on.

I'm serious about this, by the way. Yes, it was a brilliantly pithy one-liner, but it was also an incisive rebuttal to the pro-minimum wage raisers.

vitamin j and bbundy -- do you support the legal right of companies to offer unpaid internships? Isn't this really just a loophole to circumvent minimum wage laws? How do you expect interns to live on $0 per hour?
