Dumb question: Why is the O2 sensor mounted there?

Ease of access to disconnect it after tuning is complete? - obviously will not last long mounted in that position.

Also, needs custom intake manifold (just wish Plazmaman would make one of these for the MX5:

Hypertune will but it costs around 2500 dollars.
I will eventually build an IM but not yet.

The o2 is supposed to be there for only tuning but the turbo manifold has very long runners and it doesnt seem to bother it. Been left in a few events and no issues.

Mine is also there and was going to prompt the question as well...so far it seems to be fine after about 2 years and 10 race days/track days and plenty of about town driving...

Hopefully that comment didn't just engage murphy and his f'ed up laws...

in AUS, fire actually burns cold so the sensor isn't going to be harmed that close to the turbine.

I've heard that.

The stock 1.6 intake is a restriction above a certain point. I don't recall what it is.

I've been running a sensor about that close for 5 years now. Same sensor. Still going strong. Not an issue.

Nice work. It will be interesting to see a spud maxed out on e85. Hopefully with a proper dyno this tiem.
We got to 360 on stock IM and TB on ryans car, but the torque was starting to dip pretty hard up top, like 50ft/lb from peak to readline
That is probably close to the limit.
I really think your friend or customer or whatever should look into getting an NB head and proper IM

Did they continue to develop them as well? Very interesting.

I don't know for sure, bit I don't think the intake ports are different between the NA/NB B6.
Just solid lifters, NB sensors and different cams (I think).
If the IM fits, there is no port difference to worry about. Same IM gasket?

Edit: Just checked Jenvey fitment for B6, same for NA and NB, so same port angle. Most probably the same casting of everything. Injector location is another thing that can be different (nice to not have experience some times).

Can anyone elaborate on this above.....

a head that came with solid lifters is a plus for me....but worried about cams and sensor compatibility issues...

you can swap lifters if you like. A cam ground for HLA will pound solid lifters since there are no "lash closing ramps". But the other way around is no problem (but not optimal).

Running NB sensors have it's advantages, and you have to search to see if anyone have been able to use a B6 NA CAS on a B6 NB head/cam.

There are performance cams available anyway...

Wow, so they just re-cast the na heads with solid lifters and nb sensors and called it a day?

That's terrible.

Did the same thing with the KL. It's not uncommon. Even outside of Mazda.

It's a low cost 110bhp version aimed to reduce the taxes, why spend money?
Using the NB sensors is most probably a lot cheaper than NA (AFM+CAS).

The manifold is different for the NB6 though. The Z series motors were the evolution of the B6 that we know of, IIRC someone on here was putting one of the Z heads on a B block and it fit, ports look even better then 99+ 1.8s.
