I have a chance to get a pretty cheap T25, but it has a blown water seal.

He told me if it idles for a while, it will smoke gray, not white.

Are there any implications that a water seal may have caused damage to something else?

Is replacing the water seal the only thing that should be needed? Or would an entire rebuild be needed?

Grey means oil not water. Full rebuilds are cheap, might as well do the whole thing while you're in there. gpopshop.com

So with a turbo smoking gray, does it have any implications of damage to anything else? Like oil starvation or overheating of the turbo or any irreversible damage that can't be fixed w/ a rebuild kit?

When turbo's smoke it usually just means the oil seals are leaking and it needs a rebuild. You could get away with just replacing the oil seals. Check the shaft play though, that will tell you how bad things are. If the wheels can't touch the housings then there should be no damage. If the wheels contacted the housings then start looking for a different turbo. You can find one that isn't messed up for cheap elsewhere. Though doubtful the shaft could be damaged if starved of oil but the brass journal bearings are supposed to keep that from being a serious issue.

are there anways you can fix the shaft play? i just got a gt25 for free but got a little shaftplay..its barely touching the housing...

its impossible for the water to enter the exhaust unless the entire center section was cracked. in that case you'd have oil and water everywhere and chance are the engine would blow then catch on fire 2 minutes later.

Blue is oil actually(I used to own a ford), unless turbos for some reason smoke gray.

WTF sam. Grey can easily be mistaken for blue or vice versa. My turbo smoked grey.

i always saw grayish smoke from my pipes when id burn oil in boost. at idle it was always blue however.
