Twin-scroll Rx-7 turbo?
I know this will probably get dinged as a stupid question, and no, I'm not going to try to put it on my MSM.... But I have an S5 rotary engine chilling in my garage... and I was looking at the turbo, and was curious what it would do in a miata. I think it might be an interesting unit to run. Say you took the factory RX7 manifold and cut off the flange and used that, then made a manifold with 1-3 and 2-4 runners feeding the seprate inlets on the turbo... I know there is a bit of benefit separating the exhaust like that so you don't have the.. I forget the term, but basically a resonance that causes issues between offset exhaust strokes.
Anyway, would this be something interesting/worthwhile, or just another dumb/cheap/crappy turbo build where nothing is matched right/well.
Just sayin, if maybe I had an NA or something lying around and too much time with a welder..

If I remember correctly the turbo is made by hitachi, with a ridiculously big turbine wheel and a relatively small compressor wheel. I don't think it would be worth a **** on a miata, I know they aren't worth a **** on my TII.

Yea, thats basically it. I just have a few turbos lying around the house. I got around to looking deeper, it looks like its way to big in any sort of way for the miata, honestly. It would be an interesting unit on a 2.4l or so. The only reason one would even use something that old is for the twin-scroll setup, which is sort of hard to find on a stock vehicle, no?
The one I have is in very good shape all things considered. I had the A/R's earlier I need to look them up again. Then measure some stuff. No compressor graphs for it.
And I think its a Hitatchi HT-18 and there are some other things after that. Like S2 or something.. can remember.

After more research I kind of figured that'd be what the outcome would be. It looks like others who were able to almost bolt it up to a stock nissan manifold and on the 2.0 nissan it was a dog, someone mentioned on a 2.4/2.5, i forget, nissan motor it was a decent match, but still a bit slow. So, I guess its just one of those things about rotary's, they don't act like other gas motors in many ways.
