Default Turbo build going full retard

So here I am. that noob that shows up once a month who couldnt be more clueless about turbos and wants to chat with the boffins to try and understand it all.

been driving my miata (or mx5 as we call them here in Englandland) for a while now and the 1.8 is great fun to drive and Im no where near tired of it yet, but Ive come across a turbo for sale at a BARGAIN price and really really really want it D:

However not knowing anything about turbos makes it kinda difficult to buy one.

So im asking you guys, what does all this code mean? TD05? what on earth is that? 16g? help.

The turbo I found for sale is said to be a 16g turbo miata setup from a subaru sti.

What Im asking is;

Has the 16g been done before? what other "G"s are there? what does the G mean?
what does TD05 mean?
is this turbo way too big?
way too small?
what companies are there that make decent manifolds? dont want a rubbish ebay job

thanks very much

Once a month? I'm pretty sure we've had 5 or 6 and it's only the 3rd day of the month.

Now STFU and read. We aren't going to spoon feed you answers to those dumb questions. Start with the "DIY FAQ All your answers in one post" and then read build threads until you have some non-retarded questions.

AHAHAHA read his intro thread, he says he's building it to drift.

I will actually have sex with a woman if he is not banned by tomorrow.

They don't have Google in the land of Eng? Seriously. If I were to try to explain Mitsubishi turbo nomenclature in a forum thread it could never be as comprehensible as a the explanation of the average Wikipediatrician.

Actually I can't blame him too much for that. I've been reading every thread on this site for the last year and I still have no idea what any of the Mitsu **** means.

But if I cared I would look it up.

The 16g can pull 15.8776433 G's in a turn.

Steve don't give up.
By using strategies of perseverance and diminished standards even I managed to hook up.

In his defense, turbo flanges/sizing is substantially more complicated than I expected them to be. I've read a lot here and on other sites and still don't really understand most of it. And he didn't even tell us he's going to buy a $300 ebay turbo kit.

TD05 is the flange on the turbo, it's what allows the turbo to bolt on the manifold. The Glossary of common turbo flanges will show you several available options. For any given flange, there are then a range of turbo sizes that you have to select from with different power/lag/money characteristics.

In order to decide if a turbo is a reasonable option you have to first identify whether there is a manifold available that will fit your motor and the turbo (or if you want to make your own). Then you have to decide how much power you want to make and find a turbo that fits well in that power range.

thats why noobs like myself are attracted to garrett. straight forward naming convention and very well documented in the miata world. Once I get some experience and know what I characteristics and power goals I want for my next build I'd dig a little deeper into other turbo offerings.

Certainly doesn't hurt that there are tons of T25 manifolds, downpipes, cheap turbos, and wide range of options for flow/power when you go that route.
