Default Question about AFC Neo!!!

hey peeps was up...ok i'm almost done with my DIY kit but i need some kind of fuel management i wanted to know if it would be safe to just buy for now an AFC Neo so i can at least have the car running.. i'm probably going to be running around 200 to 210 hp.. i told my friends about it but then they asked me ( "what are you going to do about timing") is that something i have to worry about also..

I don't worry about timming but my **** runs effecient the Safc Neo or even teh 2 are friggin way overpriced new buy one used or get a afpr, and be done with it. although the real smart money is in Megasquirt. i spent about 20$ more on my Megasquirt than i did on my safc 2, off ebay. Either way the install was about the same difficulty for either system.

Trust me dude. It is dead simple. You have a 1.6 or a 97 or earlier 1.8? If so then it will work just fine.

as long as you have a 90-93 or 94-95 i can build you one.

and i have to add, Richard doesn't worry about timing because he utilizes water injection, which he fails to mention to people sometimes when it matters. I don't want another hose in bucket situation

What Megasquirt can do in a nutshell:
* Remove the AFM/MAF
* Complete control over your fuel (12x12 map)
* Complete control over your spark (12x12 map)
* Boost Control Abilities
* Traction and Launch Control Abilities
* Fan / Idle Control to completely remove the OEM ECU
o I can't however control A/C, so only an option for those without a/c

What I give to you:

* Custom Built MS to your specs
* Custom Boomslang harness for simply install
o Only requires wiring the fuel pump (1.6L only), AIT sensor, WBo2, Boost solenoid
o A Base MS will only require grounded the fuel pump, running a vacuum line and starting the car.
* AIT sensor for AFM/MAF removal (-$30 to opt out and retain OEM meter)
* All accessories and components for add-ons (such as EBC or KnocksenseMS)
* Quick Disconnects (Male and Female) for any wires you need to run off the harness for easy wiring.
* All firmware flashed with a map to your specs included (fuel/spark included)

What you require:

* A laptop with serial port or USB port
o Serial cable or USB-serial converter cable required
* About 5' of vacuum line for the internal MAP sensor
* Some length of wire for various hook ups
* Megatune Software (download for free)

What I need from you:

* Your build specs
o Base MS with Miata Mods and db37 connector ($330)
o AIT sensor with 3/8" bung ($30) (for AFM removal)
o EBC ($40)
o KnocksenseMS ($110)
o 4-bar Map sensor ($70)
o Fan Control ($7)
o Idle Control ($10)
o Piggback Boomslang Harness ($60)
o Standalone Harness ($30)
* Your setup
o Your Model Year
o Your injector size
o Your wbo2

I could probably do it. I just hate getting into something I've never done before, I'm completely clueless when it comes to miatas earlier than 97.

If you run to much timming the motor will go bang bang boomb, killing your pistons etc. Good catch Scot i get ahead of myself sometimes.

The neo should work just fine as would a safc 1 or 2. But like i said, a used unit is a better deal though.

Since you have a 03 a Bipes ACU will not work for you [for timing] as it does alot of other people and i do not believe that you can mechanically retard your timing like us earlier miatas can. So your options for timing control become quite expensive. (ie., JS safegaurd or the pcpro) for timing if they ever get it done.

Or if you think you can handle all the HP and responsibility of checking your water levels you could run WI like me and a fair bit of boost with stock timing.

You guys have abit more compression than we do, but i think with a basic Devils own kit (185$) bought from the group buy by Wideopentunning, you could run 8-10 psi and make some pretty nice power. + By doing this you will eliminate all the lag, weight, and general complexity of an intercooler. (that sentence made me laugh)

FWIW, 18 psi and still no timing controller or IC here. If you can pay attention and, drive with a bit of sense until you get the tune ironed out then WI might well be for you. I suggest you check out what neongenesis, and others like me have done with the search button there is a lot to be learned.

EDIT: *Massive spelling and general editing*

yeah about the learning thing i know..haha
well i was told i could run the neo and stock fuel pump for now cuz i'm not going to be having that much hp and didn't have to worry about timing..
so what your saying is that i can go with the neo and for the timing get the devils own kit...
....(i'm not going to be doing the tuning for my car, some one ealse will)

This isn't tunning in the complicated sense. I have gone over my theory and methods on several threads. Just as Neongenesis, etc have as well. This is dead nuts simple dude.
Check out these threads for a start
https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo-discussion-14/wi-questions-experiences-anybody-got-em-4467/
https://www.miataturbo.net/useful-saved-posts-8/water-injection-install-10998/
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...hlight=install
https://www.miataturbo.net/showthrea...hlight=install
WI is the process of injecting a metered amount of water and methanol in most cases just before the throttle body to cool the intake charge and add abit of mass to the exhaust and help spool the turbo. This also has the side effect of cleaning your combustion chamber. And raising the detonation level of your current setup.
