Default Putting together an NB DIY kit

Looking at a few things for sale here and want to check a couple of things:

Gettingsidewaysd1's T25 and exahust manifold and Samnavy's now-ebayed T25 NB downpipe.

Everything above will work happily together? I wasn't sure if the 99 head used the same exhaust manifolds at the 94-97's. Also, is that turbo clocked to work with the FM T25 downpipe?

If so, looks like it could be the beginnings of my kit. I was going to TIG up my own manifold, but may consider a reasonably priced used one.

That manifold will fit. Not sure on all your other questions though. I'm probably gonna buy a JGS kit manifold and weld one up, but that's because I want to go t3/t4. If I were going to go t25, I'd be all over that begi manifold.

dude i put together a kit for my 03 pretty easy stuff i got some ebay 2.5 ic piping, mani (which i don't recommend cuz it cracked on me like 50 times, i would go with something that will never break, right now im getting one made 1 1/4 inched thick that ****** is never cracking) anyways, i started out with a sr-t25 which i'm selling now madd cheap, and that turbo is insane for the car it spools up crazzy, i later went to this rx7 specialist store by my house and got me some 460's cleaned them my self pretty easy way to do it, and the aem fic and got it all put together by this performance shop and tuned...some little modifications had to be made like with the piping and stuff but other than that the car came out clean

For your consideration.

LOL, yeah I saw it. I'll be watching the auction.

When you had listed it here before I wasn't going NB, but a good deal came up on a 99 and I pick it up tomorrow.

Another question, as I need to start researching NB's now. I was planning on MS for an NA. What less expensive options are there for NB's? Exede is money. I know Corky is working on a lower $ solution that may be out in a couple of months. I actually have been considering building my own "BEGI S" type kit and going with his FMU for now, keep it at 5-6 psi and upgrade to the new management unit later this summer when it comes out, along with adding the FMIC. The FMU's are available all over for about $100. What say you?

I can help guide you through Megasquirting your NB. It's just as easy as doing an NA but you need to install a 94-97 CAS on the exhaust cam. That is a 20 minute deal though.

You can not run the FMU on a '99 unless you run a pierburg as well to recirc the fuel. NB's have a returnless fuel system.

Wow, I didn't think MS would work on a NB. I knew there wasn't a PNP version yet, but I thought there were other problems.

I have a 95 and a 96 CAS from previously parted cars plus a full wiring harness if connectors are needed, and I have a Pierburg that I bought off this forum a few months ago that was going into my Locost so I have the "extra" parts needed to do this.

If you go MS you won't have to modify the fuel system with the pierburg or FMU. Larger injectors would be nice but your '99 injectors will reach 100% duty at around 7 psi on that T25 turbo. (Mine did anyway)
There are no tricks to it. What kind of time frame are you looking at to get this going? Those CASs and harness connectors are perfect you're lucky to have them already.

I have a set of tan tops from another engine, too, so that gets me to 265cc over the 246 on the red tops.

I just took some time to read all of the links in your sig (with the exception of the MegaManual) and I think I am going to do this in stages.

Stage 1

BEGI S - style package at 6 psi.

Turbo
Manifold
Downpipe
FMU
Stock exhaust

Pros:
no engine management, stock clutch OK, stock injectors OK, No IC ($$$)
Easier and faster to install
Still a noticeable improvement over stock
Should be able to do for $1K used/DIY

Stage 2

MS
IC
Injectors
Clutch
Exhaust

Pros:

Can do in stages
Add $ as needed
not rushed to get it all together

This car is just a project/toy so I have no timeframe to get it all done. Working on it and enjoying it is more important than plowing through it.

Sounds like my original plan, but now I have a clutch already in (group buy, it was a good deal), I have an EMU in (good deal on ebay), and I have an intercooler sitting in my room (I needed couplers and T-bolt clamps, and I figured I would go ahead and order the I/C to save on shipping), and I am STILL not boosted yet.

sorry for the newbie-esque Q, but I'm helping out a friend cobble parts together overseas. He needs the little odds and ends such as water and oil fittings. Where do you guys like to get those?

Tuner Toys (located in the sponsors section) has the fitting for the oil feed source, for the others...I do not know.

Jason, you can get the oil and coolant fittings from our forum sponsor Tunertoys. They offer the oil pressure T as well as coolant, oil feed, drain kits for the miata.
Verify the length of the oil feed line though, for my NB it is more like 46" compared to the short one they offer for the 1.6L.

What Chad said. I took the money I would have spent on the BEGi fuel pressure regulator and related what-nots and spent it on an MS instead. A much better, long-term, more powerful solution no doubt. There is more to learn but all you need to know to get a decent tune is here in past threads.

Once I got above about 6 psi I was maxing out the stock injectors at 100% duty cycle. If you run higher pressures will need some larger RX7 injectors. Plug and play if you get the right ones.

I would only say that I would do the clutch before anything else. I've been breaking mine in gently and it's a test of will power not to beat on it, I can only imagine once boosted it would be even harder.

The stock clutch will get you by, at 6-8 psi I bet you won't need it unless you like clutch dumps, burnouts and driftnnzz creationzz. Under 200hp though I bet it would hold up for a while while you got other things in order.

yeah i would really look into a good clutch something that you don't have to worry about it not holding your power but at the same time you don't want something that is too over the top (like a 400tq clutch)

You're the first guy I've seen on here who actually used that particular ebay manifold. Did you do any additional bracing to help it support the load and not vibrate?

I note it looks like you have the power steering still in place. What about A/C? How silly was the bend to the compressor inlet? How much space was there between the compressor and the "shelf"? More pics, or your own thread?

Are you happy with the AEM unit? Pretty easy for your tuner to hook up?

ok i'll start with the first question the mani i wouldn't recommend It ******* sucks i that **** cracked on my like 6 times and i reinforced the **** out of it (tig welded everything and put two rods across both flanges) still cracked, the material is not good, power steering works, a/c works i'll find some pics, for the aem it's amazing, for the tuner he didn't hook it up i have a good friend who is really good with computers and stuff so he kinda made me a harness cuz the diagram on aem some things are left out i can get him to make harnesses and have for sale or something like that so make people's life easier...yesterday he found some way to wire the f/ic to a spec v with out no paper's cable by cable crazy stuff
